I barged into the door, not paying attention to his complaints, and stormed to the back rooms of the bar. The bar was the front part of the building, but upstairs held numerous dorms, all housing the club members that preferred to stay part of a pack.

My spare room was here, but it lay empty because I felt if I went rabid I would only cause more problems.

Once we got to Bone’s door, I banged on it harshly. “Get up!” I yelled.

Journey tightly wrapped her arms around my neck. “Grim, we can wait until later. We don’t need to bother him. I feel fine.”

She yawned again, but my wolf stirred with unease. He didn’t like that she was so tired.

Her body was changing, and I needed to know what was happening. Human’s mind-linking? Journey being able to hear my wolf was unfathomable. Humans just couldn’t do that? Right?

Bones opened the door, his eyes had heavy bags beneath them.

“What do you need, Grim? I just got done disposing of bodies, and I need a rest.”

“It’s Journey. She can hear my wolf speaking,” I blurted

Journey laid her head on my shoulder, letting out a precious yawn.

Bones went to close the door, but once it registered, he pulled it open again. “What?”

“You heard me. She heard my wolf, and she fucking bit me! She marked me!”

A door opened down the hall. “Hey, keep it down!” Sizzle rubbed his eyes. “I swear I can’t get away from you two. Moaning, rutting, and yelling down the gods’ damned hallway.” He slammed the door, and the walls shook.

“I just want to sleep,” Journey whined.

I clutched her body, holding her closer. I just wanted nothing to happen to her. I needed to know she was alright. If this was…normal.

Bones’s eyes softened, seeing the turmoil running through me.

“Has she been up all night?” he asked.

I nodded, feeling the guilt eat away at me. I should have put her to sleep, but I needed her. I needed to know she was mine, and no one would touch her.

“Humans need sleep, Grim. I’m sure we can look into this in the morning. She won’t be any use to me if I can’t ask her questions and look her over. Take her to your old room, I’ll bring some blankets so you can make a temporary nest. When she wakes, we will look at her. Any problems, I’ll be just down the hall.”

I bit back a growl. My wolf wanted something done now, but with Journey already asleep, there wasn’t much we could do.

“She marked you?” Bones raised an eyebrow, pulling the collar of my shirt aside. “Maybe her teeth puncturing into your skin created a two-way bond against just the one. With the goddess putting a human and a shifter together, it must have been planned.”

I didn’t need speculation.

I wanted answers.

“I’ll do some research before I go to sleep. We’ll do a full workup.” Bones led me down the hallway to my empty room.

All that was there was a mattress on the floor. He grabbed blankets from the closet. Luckily, they were brand new. No one liked to share used fabrics. Our scents embed into the fibers. Even a good wash would never clear our smells.

“It will be alright. I’ll let Locke know the plan for tomorrow.” Bones sauntered out the door, his hand clutching the side of the door.

“They got more info out of the mayor’s men,” he mentioned.

I sighed, relieved. I thought I’d screwed up by killing him too quickly.

“There is another party in a few weeks. Locke is planning an ambush. The masked man, who still has no name, will be there. The plan is to capture him.”

I nodded, laying Journey on the clean mattress.
