“Go on,” he huffed.

I padded to the bathroom, took care of my business, and washed my face. I felt much lighter on my feet today than I had since I was a young child. Not to say I wasn’t healthy before, but my body felt rejuvenated. I felt like a whole new person.

As I patted my face dry with the fluffy towel, I gazed up in the mirror and found out exactly why I felt so wonderful. A light tan, barely visible mark shone in the middle of my forehead. It was shaped like a crescent moon, points facing down, just like the Moon Goddess.

I touched it delicately. Tracing the small outline of the moon that graced my forehead. So, it wasn’t a dream after all, it was all real.

“Of course, it was real,” I mumbled to myself. “It was too magical for it not to be.”

The scratching at the door paused my awe, and I opened it to find Mr. Floofers trotting back and forth impatiently.

He tilted his head, his nose bopping the mark on my head, but he said nothing. He stared at it, his fur on his back standing up on end.

“Do you need to use the restroom?” I chided, trying to break the awkward silence.

He huffed, not appreciating the joke, and pulled on the hem of my shirt. “You are taking too long, come out.”

His maw still didn’t move, and I couldn’t help but smile at the freaking mind-link.

“Come.” He pulled on my shirt again with his teeth and led me back to our bed. He jumped on top of it, the massive wolf taking almost the entire bed until I was fully sitting on it. He pushed my body down with nose and began pushing blankets all around my body.

“What are you doing!?” I giggled, pushing them away, but he grunted in disapproval and began again.

“Making you warm, you have been sick.”He pushed a blanket over my face, and I pulled it down to throw it at him.

“That’s enough. Now tell me why are you here and not Grim?”

I didn’t want to bring up the mark on my forehead, not yet anyway. It made Mr. Floofers upset. He stared at my forehead like I had grown a horn.

With that being said, were unicorns real?

His pawing and kneading the bed stopped, and his nose went to my shoulder. I petted him silently while he purred. It wasn’t for my comfort; I was perfectly fine. But he continued anyway, rubbing his face on my skin.

“Do you not want me here, mate? Do I scare you? You do not smell of fear.”

“Scared of you? No, I’m not scared! I just never see you; I always see Grim.”

I petted the long fur behind his neck, and he settled down onto the bed. He laid across my legs, pinning me against the mattress so I wouldn’t leave, and forced his nose between my breasts.

“He hogs you. It was my turn,”He said reasonably.

“So, you are two different beings, right? There is Grim and there is you, his animal?”

He grunted in reply.

“And your name is what then?”

“I have no name,”he stated. “I am his animal, I am his wolf. A mate can give me a name if she so wishes, but it is not common. Animals communicate with animals, the human side to the other human side.”

“But you are communicating with me,” I stated.

He kept still, silent for a long time but I waited patiently.

“You do not have a wolf, and I am lonely.”

Oh my god, my heart broke.

But I would have a wolf soon, and then Floofers wouldn’t be alone. He would have another animal to talk to. I smiled at that.
