“What!” She flips around and pins me with a serious look. “Did you really buy this house?”
Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all? “Would it make you feel better if I lied and said I put it on layaway first?”
Remington laughs, and she snatches the lighter from his hand. “And y’all want me to burn it down as way of celebrating?”
I shrug and pull the deed to the home from my pocket. “You can, or we can remodel it and turn it into an outpatient facility for students with substance abuse problems. Your choice, Ms. Potter.”
Halle looks at me, then at Remington, her eyes gleaming with unshed tears. “Oh, Vance.”
Yeah, I probably should have led with the house.
“I love you.” She throws herself into my arms. “So, so much.”
My soon-to-be wife, the beautiful soul that just wouldn’t take no for an answer, might not have accomplished her dream of being on the big screen, but the impact she makes every day at Potter’s Plastics and the impact she’ll have here, at this facility, has and will continue to change lives.
And that’s exactly the happily ever after she deserves.
