The expensive lace bodysuit cut high on her hips, hugging her soft curves. Its built-in bra was see-through, putting her nipples on display along with the rest of her body. My mouth fucking watered. The guys’ auras were flaring, scents getting stronger.
Kiara moaned, her eyelids fluttering shut.
Nope. Time to put a stop to whatever was happening here.
“Pull your dress back down, Kiara,” I said.
Her lips pursed. “No.”
“Pull your dress back down. Now.”
The command forced her hand despite her whine. She was going to thank me for that one when she was sober. Her dress fell back down to where it rested at mid thigh, and we were all able to breathe easier again.
Dash had started toward her to do God knew what, when a knock on the condo door interrupted us.
My nose crinkled, and Ambrose stood first. “I’ll get it.”
I had no idea who it could be. Liberty, maybe? She usually called first, and we’d chatted during the day. Not many people knew where I lived other than her. Even my brother knew not to come to my house.
The front door creaked as it swung open, followed by Ambrose’s shout and the thundering of boots across the hardwood. I jumped to my feet, backing toward Kiara until the badges on the black tactical units registered.
It was the fucking police.
TWENTY-ONE
KIARA
The gentle buzz of alcohol through me came to an abrupt end.
Adrenaline took its place as a dozen men stormed into the apartment, wearing all black with guns up and pointed around. Their attention focused on me, pushing past Leighton so they could grab my arm.
I shrieked, fumbling for Nyla at my hip until Dash’s hand on my wrist stopped me. He’d been the closest, and now… he was the only one they weren’t yet putting in handcuffs. My throat dried as I saw Leighton on her knees, hands in metal cuffs behind her back.
“They’re not going to hurt you,” Dash said urgently. “Don’t, Kiara.”
My hand dropped from where my blade was hidden. He was right. The grip on my arm was gentle, the eyes full of concern. This man was a beta. What were they even doing here, though?
If I was taken into custody, my father would find me.
Tobiaswould find me.
I’d have to go back, and Leighton wouldn’t be able to save me if she were under arrest.
I still shied away from the beta man but let him lead me toward the condo exit. Dash’s harsh laugh drew my attention back, my footsteps stalling.
“I fucking dare you,” he said, holding out his arms for the cuffs. “Do it. See what happens. You know who I am.”
The man trying to cuff him hesitated, looking over to someone else.
I didn’t go with the beta man, watching the exchange nervously. If Dash wasn’t arrested, he would save me. Right? He’d claimed he wanted us to join his pack, but would that not matter now that this was happening?
The supposed person in charge sighed. “For fuck’s sake. Don’t cuff him, and let his packmates free too. We only need Leighton Winston. She’s the one alleged to have dark bonded that omega. If we find out it was you that made that bond, we’ll be coming for you, Dash.”
Dash laughed. “I didn’t make the bond, and Leighton’s bond isn’t illegally created either.”
“It’s not registered, and the omega has injuries all over her. We’re taking her in for an assessment by the seers, and Ms. Winston is in custody until further notice.”
“I asked for the bond,” I said, ripping free of the beta’s grip. “Why are you arresting her? I asked for it.”
