And I was so eager to get there.
SIXTY-THREE
LEIGHTON
The guys lost themselves in Kiara’s heat. She was insatiable for days, barely letting us leave—even if one or three of the others were there with her still. We were dead tired and I was sore in places I hadn’t known existed by the time she was calming down.
My omega would be in heat for a day or two longer, but we were close to breaking it. She was sleeping again, too. For the first few days, she hadn’t slept. It had been constant fucking, and we’d only slept in snippets of stolen time.
Mercury had finally gone over to my apartment, gathering up some of Kiara’s nesting items now that she was beginning to get cuddly again. He strode through the door with a couple of stuffed animals in hand, blankets draped over his shoulders.
“They got their scent all over everything,” he said with a low growl, placing the unmarred items down on the couch.
I was sitting on the couch with a laptop on my thighs and a snack on the coffee table. Ambrose and Dash were passing Kiara back and forth for cuddles and lazy knotting until she inevitably took another nap.
“If I never see another cop, it’ll be too fucking soon,” I replied.
“We’ll see them again when we take them all to court. Their scents were on things they never should have fucking touched.”
It was nice to see Mercury so protective over Kiara.
Less nice when he avoided eye contact with me, stalking toward their kitchen.
“Come here,” I demanded.
He froze in place, his back to me.
“Unless you don’t think we should clear the air?” I asked.
His shoulders slumped and he turned on his heel, his lips turned down in a scowl. “There’s no air to clear.”
“Oh, so we’re not going to talk about how Ambrose and I have been fucking for years? Or the way you came in your pants last week at my apartment?”
Mercury’s little growl was nothing short of cute. He stormed over to the couch, sitting as far away as he could get. Kiara’s rescued nesting items created a barrier between us.
“I knew that Ambrose was seeing someone. That wasn’t a secret,” he stated abruptly. “We were never exclusive. I could have been seeing someone else too.”
He didn’t mention our moment last week. With the armchair. I wanted a repeat, but I wasn’t sure if he did.
“I’m not saying that he was cheating on you. I know he wasn’t. I was more wanting to ask how you feel about it being… me.”
There were a few things standing in the way of us being a perfect pack. One, was any lingering negative feelings between Mercury and I. I owed it to Kiara to try and get this out of the way, whether or not it resulted in me also banging Mercury. He’d accepted my omega. That was enough for a basis of a happy pack, as long as we didn’t hate each other.
I ignored the twinge of discomfort that brought.
Mercury was more like me than any of the others. Secluding himself to protect his pack. It was harder to break his shell. I had some of the same coping mechanisms.
Maybe that made us the least compatible as romantic partners, but I wanted to at least try.
He intrigued me.
Not just in a sexual sense, but that too. I’d absolutely been imagining what it would be like to fuck him and Ambrose at the same time.
“I was furious,” Mercury said. “Because I thought Ambrose seeing you would hurt Dash. As it turned out, I was wrong, and now we have a pack. So that’s irrelevant.”
He tried to stand, but one look from me stopped him.
Ambrose must have so much fun with him. He listened without me even having to speak.
