The man’s jaw unhinged, but his annoyance vanished. His Omega was in the process of getting clothed grumpily and tossed Matthias his missing pants. “Freya, what in the four realms are you fucking doing here?”

“That’s a really long story, and you’re going to want to be sitting down.”

She breezed by him and Emmett trailed behind, going to sit on a couple of lounge chairs on the other side of the room. Oswald and I followed but hung back, leaning against the wall and casually touching each other. After Ozzy’s not-so-subtle claiming, there was no doubt about who had made the bond mark on my neck.

When both Matthias and his Omega were clothed and seated, Freya grinned. “We’ll start with introductions before we get into the heavier topics. This is Emmett, Shan and Caspian’s partner.”

“Now that I think of it, I’ve seen his face on the wanted posters,” Matthias said dryly.

“The big guy leaning against the wall is Oswald. Yes, my cat.”

“Familiar. Not cat, and I was never actually a familiar,” Ozzy grumbled. “Nice to see you again, Mattie.”

Looking a little stunned, Matthias didn’t do anything but nod. How was Freya going to introduce me? I was arguably the most surprising addition of all to her pack.

“And the cute ginger is Nolan Jitara.”

Straight for the details, apparently. No easing him into it.

He jumped up and placed himself between me and his Omega, a growl rumbling under his breath. I readied my magic in case this got ugly. Freya dragged herself up from her seat and over to me, and before I’d comprehended exactly what her goal was, her lips were on mine. I groaned and melted, placing my hands on her hips.

She didn’t kiss me long, thank the gods, but I was still hard by the time she pulled away. Reaching down, I tried to discreetly adjust my shorts. Light brown cargo shorts weren’t especially forgiving on a boner, as I’d learned in the past couple of weeks. I might have to consider a wardrobe adjustment.

“He’s mine,” Freya said. “And not dangerous.”

“Him being yours definitely doesn’t make him not dangerous,” Matthias said.

He’d settled, though. He folded his body down into the lounge chair, pulling his Omega into his lap. “He’s not dangerous to you,” she corrected. “Nolan is dangerous to most other people, including you if you fuck me over.”

“I’m going to need some more information before I decide if I want anything to do with you.”

That was fair. Harbouring a group of fugitives from the Angelic Enforcement Agency wouldn’t be a good look for him. Freya trusted him, but I wouldn’t blame him if he turned us in. “Noted. Guys, this is Matthias and his Omega, Thereon. I should have known they would be fucking in this office, but I didn’t think that far in advance.”

“Nice to meet you,” I said politely.

Oswald only grunted and Emmett nodded. Matthias gave me another once over, more critical this time. I saw his questions in his expression. People always wanted to ask when they heard my last name. What were my connections to the Jitara vampire mafia? Were Kylan and I close? How did I function as a Beta in a family like that? Why was I a scrawny ginger?

“A lot of shit has happened,” Freya started.

“It might be easier to start with what I already know,” Matthias cut Freya off before she could launch into whatever explanation she had planned. “You, along with Shan, Caspian, and Emmett, are on the AEA’s most wanted list. There’s no indication they ever worked for them. The hellhound in my club had something to do with you, and I had to pay out the ass to fix the fucking damages. You’ve been an Omega this whole time, which I knew because I’m not stupid.”

“I’ll eventually pay you back for the damages,” Freya promised.

“I’ll pay him,” I said with a shrug. “My hellhound, after all.”

Matthias glared at me. I wasn’t earning myself any points.

“The guys did work for the AEA, also. They got themselves on the shit list, badly enough the company cut all ties.”

She didn’t go into detail about how Shan brutally murdering sixteen people got them onto the wanted list.

“I’m also an Omega, as you can tell from the lack of scent dampener, and I did not think you were an idiot. I knew you knew something was going on and I appreciate you doing what you could to help me hide it. The week long vacations must have gotten annoying after a while.”

“Painfully annoying,” Matthias said. “I’m all for employing Omegas and letting them take the time they need for their heats, but once a month was getting hard to manage.”

“I don’t know how you managed to avoid jumping the customers,” Thereon piped up for the first time. His fingers played in his mate’s hair and he smirked casually. “When I get close to heat I have trouble not rubbing up against people, and Mattie keeps me very satisfied.”

His gaze lingered on each of us as he looked around the room, though, expressing a fair bit of interest. Emmett ignored the perusal, but Ozzy and I moved possessively closer to each other.
