“No, but—”

A finger to Caspian’s lips shut him up. His breath hitched. He pushed back against me, trying to get me to back up, but I didn’t budge. If he really wanted to escape, he could go around me.

“No. I do not look like a familiar because I’m not one. I was only cursed, and I’m not evil. Stop avoiding me. All it’s doing is making me more desperate to chase you.”

“Chase me?” Cas asked, his voice wispy.

“Yes. I didn’t spend much time in my mer form in Zemterra, but when I was spending time in the depths, I learned one thing. Merdemons are apex predators. Something runs, we chase until we catch it.”

“Catch it…”

Caspian was short-circuiting and I was perfuming up the place. Feeling a faint strain on my magic, I drew some runes in the air to hide our scents. The last thing we needed was to draw the attention of the guards.

“Until we catch it, yes,” Oswald said, a faint smirk quirking the corner of his lips.

He knew what he was doing to Caspian. It was obvious. My hands tugged at the hem of the long shirt I’d forced Cas to wear, pulling it up far enough to see the wet spot on his leggings and the tantalizing outline of his cock. Flirting with him was almost enough to make him come, in certain circumstances.

I paid attention to our surroundings… vaguely.

Ozzy was so fucking right about our capabilities as a team. We couldn’t spend thirty minutes in the field without being distracted as we were now.

“And you know what happens when I catch you, Cassy?”

“My name is Caspian,” he blurted, his face flaming.

“Cassy.Do you know what happens what I catch you?” Ozzy asked again, enunciating every individual word.

“What?”

“I’ll fuck you into the mattress so hard you won’t be able to walk for a week. I get a little too excited about the chase, and it’s been a long fucking time since I’ve had one. So I’d advise you: Stop. Running. Stop avoiding me.”

Caspian whimpered. I gave up on pretending to pay attention and held him against my chest, my hand slipping inside his pants and grasping his cock. He gasped and Ozzy kept watching his expression, avoiding looking down at where I stroked him. As I kissed at his neck, he let out a symphony of little moans.

“I think you’ve just convinced Caspian to avoid you forever,” I murmured.

“As long as he understands the consequences of his actions,” Oswald said. “If he knows how rough I’m going to fuck him when I finally catch him. If Cassy fully comprehends how many times I’m going to tell him to run, only to catch him from behind and shove inside…”

He melted. Cas melted in my arms as he came, making a mess of the inside of his too-tight pants. It was difficult to hold him up, his body heavier than mine, but a spell helped do some of the work for me. I had far too many spells running, but it was worth it for the litany of moans and whimpers as he succumbed to the fantasy.

I let him stand limp for a few seconds as I finished him off, then pulled my hand out of his pants and went to lick it clean. Ozzy caught my wrist, sucking one of my fingers into his mouth with a smirk. Caspian shivered, watching with half-lidded eyes. “Now I know what it’ll taste like when I finally catch you,” Ozzy purred.

He let my hand go and I brought it to my mouth, lapping up the rest. Caspian was dazed but readjusted the long tunic over his mess, probably very glad I’d made him wear it now.

“This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about, by the way,” Oswald said, stepping away from us.

Cas turned his head to watch him walk back over to the wall where he’d been leaning beforehand.

“I know,” I said with a sigh. “We’ve got some things to work out before there’s high risks involved.”

Releasing Caspian, I dropped some of the magic. The strain on my body lessened, but our scents would be floating around again. I had to hope the arousal had diminished enough that it wasn’t distracting at this point.

We both stood up straight, trying to calm our flushed cheeks and warmed bodies, and I turned to face where we were supposed to be watching once again. A rapid movement caught my attention one alley over from us. I whipped out the phone in case it was an anomaly I needed to warn Nolan about. Seconds passed and I saw it again, a movement too fast to be from a Null.

I dialled Nolan.

He didn’t answer, the call abruptly cutting off.

A second later, we heard a gunshot and Oswald stiffened, bringing his hands to his torso.
