“Sweetheart, the first time I fuck you for real, I’ll make sure you’re wiped out for days. I only meant I wouldn’t be able to do that all the time.”
“You’ve already fucked me plenty of times.”
I couldn’t make eye contact, the bulge in my pants growing uncomfortable.
“Not since I learned you love me back.”
“Why does that change things?”
“Doesn’t it?” he asked. “I’ll be able to tease you without you complaining I’m paying too much attention to your pleasure, make you come ten times without you telling me how I don’t need to do that. And you’ll be telling me how you love me while my tongue is on you. I’d say that’s a big change.”
His fingers caught underneath my chin and he forced my head up, taking in my flushed cheeks and the way I was biting my lip. A small smile spread across his face and he brushed a soft kiss across my lips. “I didn’t want you to think you had to,” I muttered.
“I’m well aware that I never had to eat your ass in order to feed you, Caspian. I enjoy watching you when you come, as I’ve told you a thousand times. Maybe now you’ll finally listen.”
“You’re embarrassing.”
“Only with you.”
He released me and I pouted while he changed his clothes, slipping on loose sweats he could easily slip in and out of if he needed to shift on our search. I changed into looser clothes too, but my reason was how my cock was feeling horribly pinched in the jeans. We slipped out of the hotel room with our hands clasped, ready to find the woman I loved. Even if she didn’t love me back enough to ask me for help.
ChapterFive
SHAN
Iwas a hypocrite for being furious at Freya.
But, fuck it, I couldn’t stop myself. I was spitting mad. Rage-filled. Ready to rip the head off anyone who looked at me wrong. Which was why I’d lashed out at Em. The only thing that cooled my anger was the way Caspian looked at me. He was disappointed. Inme.In my inability to keep myself together and fix the mess I’d made.
Whipping through the air, I ground my teeth together so hard my jaw hurt. The night was cool for summer and the air pierced me, but the chill made me think about Caspian. His magic was colder than this, but maybe I would feel it piercing me too when he found out what I was doing.
I certainly wasn’t scanning the area for portals.
I knew who had a hand in stealing her from me, and he was going to give me some answers. The alternative was me wringing them out of him in any way necessary. Hell, I might do that anyway. It would be a good outlet for the emotion clogging up my brain.
The light was wrapped around me when I landed on Jude’s front stoop, making me invisible to his guards. They would sense me with magic or scent me soon enough, but I paused to observe what I was up against.
Jude’s personal residence was on the outskirts of town, in an area for the affluent Nulls. The mansion was three stories tall with an underground basement, the outside redone with an old-world charm. He was as old as I was, and had spent most of those years on Earth, so he was clearly calling upon the past. I personally thought his house was ridiculously ugly, and I had since the first time I’d stepped up to it years ago, during our ill-fated attempt to infiltrate the mafia.
Men hung back in the shadows, invisible to passing Nulls but a force strong enough for any supernatural to feel. Their presence seemed stronger than usual tonight. Was Freya here? I didn’t catch her sweet scent of coffee and vanilla in the air, and they would have had to bring her through the front door less than two hours ago.
No matter. Jude knew where she was being held. He was the one who’d shown up at Club Chaos, so he had to be Kylan’s little bitch who was handling this for him.
Reaching out with my senses, I found at least fifteen men, all demons of some variety.
In the middle of the night, my odds weren’t good unless I kept my presence a secret for the first few hits. Whatever. That was a risk I was willing to take.
The first guard never saw it coming. Tucking my wings close to me and hiding them as I often did, I crept up behind the distracted incubus and snapped his neck. I lowered his body gently to the ground, using my sword to chop off his head in one quick motion with nothing more than a gentle thunk of the blade hitting the grass. Snapping his neck wouldn’t have kept him down for more than a few minutes, and I wouldn’t let anyone get away from here.
This was going to be a bloodbath.
I dispatched the guard on the opposite side of the house in the same way, but this one let out a loud grunt before falling unconscious. My eyes fluttered shut and I paused, feeling my surroundings.
Several men were creeping in the direction of the sound. For the love of the gods, I was fucked.
Dropping the veil of invisibility, I brought my sword down without further hesitation or any care for how loud it was. Blood was spraying from the wound when the first men jolted into action and came around the side of the house.
The liquid was warm and sticky on my skin, making my grip on the handle of my sword slippery. A few drops clung to the strands of hair that were falling out of my bun, weighing them down. With the scent of it this heavy in the air, it was only a matter of time before the rest of Jude’s guards came out of the house to assist. Only a matter of time until a Null walked by and spotted the happenings between the tall privacy hedges along the front of the property.
