Clearly I need to hang out with you more. You’re like a magnet for T5

I wasn’tsure it was me who was the magnet for T5—Megan was the only reason we’d talked to Hudson today. We were at the mall when he recognized her as the girl he spilled coffee on in Starbucks. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t going to have fun with it.

“Sloane, put your phone away,” Mom said. “You know the rules at dinner.”

I sighed and dropped my phone face-down on the table and tried to act like I was interested in what Grace was talking about. My parents insisted on us having family dinners every day, but more often than not, it turned into Grace talking for an hour straight. Tom was smart and took a night class that ran right across the time we had dinner, so he didn’t have to sit through it three days a week.

“And Neil’s my age, so he’ll probably end up in my class and...” I was pretty sure Grace hadn’t taken a breath in the last ten minutes she’d been talking about Take Five. I sighed and rested my cheek on my hand as I pushed my food around my plate. While I’d had fun trying to convince Megan that she and Hudson were clearly destined to be together since they’d met twice in twenty-four hours, that didn’t mean I’d suddenly become a huge fan of the band or wanted to listen to these long rants. I’d had enough of them for a lifetime.

“How old are the other boys?” Mom asked. “Maybe some of them will be in Sloane’s class.”

Just as I was scooping some food up on my fork, Grace’s hand clamped down on my forearm, just like she’d done when I tried to sneak away during the livestream the other day. I had to clench my mouth shut to avoid yelling at her. It was my own fault—it was a skill I’d taught her a while ago to use anytime a boy was annoying her. It hadn’t occurred to me that she might turn around and use it on me like this.

“Oh my gosh, Sloane!” Grace squealed. “If any of them are in your class, you have to introduce me!”

“They probably won’t be,” I said, even though I was praying for the opposite. Megan and I had identical schedules at school, so by hoping for Hudson to end up in one of her classes, I was automatically hoping for him to be in one of mine as well.

“Three of them are your age!” Grace’s voice was getting more shrill by the second. “Between your four classes, those are amazing chances!Promise meyou’ll introduce me.”

“I—” I hissed as her grip tightened. I couldn’t tell whether it was from the anticipation of my next words or as a way to try to threaten me into saying yes. “Okay, okay, fine.”

Grace squealed again and let go of my arm, only to throw her arms around me and squeeze like she was trying to suffocate me. It wasn’t really comfortable, but I guess it was better than getting my arm crushed. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Now probably would be a bad time to mention to her that I’d actually met Hudson twice and hadn’t asked for an autograph or anything. She probably would never forgive me if I admitted that… Good thing she didn’t have Twitter.
