“I will go.”
With no other choice but to watch him leave, I followed Galenor’s steps out of the room, terrified of how he’d be returned to me.
A burst of indignation flared through my body as I had no choice but to stand there and watch the door seal back shut. I felt powerless, useless, purposeless. Why in the name of all the gods had I been instructed to care for him, when they were going to do it all over again?
My lips rose in a snarl, powered by my inability to help him.
Not that I cared. I must have repeated that to myself over ten times, each one becoming harder to believe. I had known the guy for three days, without counting the time he spent as a pile of meat freshly out of a wooden box.
He was rude, impertinent and curt, he thought himself more important than those around him and he ate all my food, whilst proceeding to ignore me and work on his weights. Still, panic speared through me at the thought of what they would do to him, what he had to endure throughout the day.
If yesterday was any indication, he was in for the long run, and I’d probably see him back after dinner. Which meant that over ten hours of torture awaited my faerie companion. And there was nothing in my power to change his fate.
PDD, my mind snapped.
“Hello, can I speak to PDD please?” I turned my eyes up to the ceiling, doing everything in my power for my echo to pierce through the morning haze.
“Hello?” I insisted, raising my tone and standing on my toes as if in that position my voice could penetrate deeper into the mics.
“Captain Harrow, how can we be of assistance?” the robotic voice, not belonging to PDD responded.
“I need to speak to PDD. I request a written conversation, same as last time.”
A few minutes of silence passed, during which I checked the screen of the device about a hundred times to see if any chat messages appeared.
“He is not available at the moment, if you would like to leave a message…” the voice replied, so distorted, it made it obvious that this was a new person, possibly a woman who tried to alter the voice encryption probably a bit too much.
I sighed, knowing my insistence would be for nothing. “Fine, how can I leave a message?”
“We will add a messaging service to your device shortly.”
And that was that. I had to wait.
Wait for them to remotely install whatever the tablet needed.
Wait for time to pass.
Wait for Galenor to return.
Wait and worry.
“For the attention of PDD,
I must express my concern with regards to the development of this trial assignment. Since his arrival, Gale received incident treatment which could be called inhumane. I understand the need to pull information from a subject and the various ways in doing so, however he is now a subject in a trial assignment. We are on day ten and I still haven’t received any background on said subject, nor do I have a complete set of instructions that would ease my understanding of this trial.
I must confess my opposition to the way the fae male continues to be treated and I must firmly object to the continuation of this routine, since it leaves the subject injured and unwilling to cooperate. Furthermore, I request information on my role and demand a set of complete instructions to be released at your earliest convenience for the betterment of this assignment.
Should you require more information or wish to have a direct conversation concerning the subject or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
With esteem,
Captain E. Harrow”
“Dearest Captain Harrow,
Firstly, I would like to convey my sincere apologies for the delay in this reply, I must admit the first part of the day was not up to standard and other matters kept me away from the current developments.
I would like to confirm that the temporary release of the subject received prior approval as the fae male in question proved to be a valuable asset in various other projects which are simultaneously running alongside this trial assignment.
