The more he kept his fangs out of her, depriving her of feeling the intimate connection and wholeness again, the more she began to have doubts that Amaros wanted her for anything other than a plaything.Something to amuse himself while she went through the transition.

The beast that now lived inside of her controlled her at a level that astounded her mentally and physically. It made her aware that there was something more than foreplay and him feeding him to slake her thirst. It made her yearn for Amaros’s bite and burn under his rejection to give it to her.

Amaros was her Sire because he had made her, but not her mate.

She had been in deadly agony in the cave, but she recalled the few words they had exchanged, and he’d made no other promises to her but that she would live. He’d fulfilled his part.

“I think it is time. You are ready to step out of this room.”

Thisroom.Notourroom.

Parched, she licked her lips, expecting them to be dry only to find them wet.Not just moistened from her tongue, but there was a coating of blood on them. She was confused for a moment until she felt the sting along her tongue as if sliced by dual razors. Her fangs had done it.

Fangs!Gingerly, she ran her tongue over the sharp tips.Joy bubbled up inside of her.

“Lovely, aren’t they?”Amaros released her legs, letting them drop heavily onto the mattress as he crawled up the bed and lay beside her.

“Yeth...yeth...”Her words were obscure because she couldn’t keep her tongue off her fangs long enough to speak clearly.Tired of being fed like a baby vamp, only able to drink if Amaros cut a vein for her, she was ready to use her newly sprouted teeth.A faint haze of red began to tint her eyes as she thought about having the opportunity to sink her fangs into one of the delicious humans she smelled on Amaros the other night or hear the staccato of their hearts beating through the door.

It had been maddening.

“Yes, let’s go down to breakfast.”She sat up quickly, ready to make her way from the bed.

Amaros, who had centuries on her, was faster. He grabbed her wrists and kept her seated at the edge of the bed.“You are not permitted to seek out the humans alone.”

“Why not?”she whined, honestly whined, as her bottom lip poked out like the baby beast she just declared to herself she wasn’t.“I’m hungry.”

He chuckled, and the heat of his body through his damn cotton shirt pressed along her back.No man should have a laugh that was a perfect timbre that made it feel like a lover's soft, warm breath was blowing along every needy hill and valley of your body.

It wasn’t right. It was downright cruel to cause such a sensation when she didn’t find any damn thing funny, not the fact he wasn’t going to let her bite anyone or the fact that even with everything he’d done to her through the long-ass night, Amaros had remained dressed in his slacks and shirt.

Feeling his bare skin against hers was another yearning denied her.She attempted to yank out of his hold.It didn’t work.Even though he only used two fingers and his thumb on each of her wrists, his light hold was unbreakable.

“I know you need blood.I will ensure you get plenty. But only when and how I say.”He kissed along the shell of her ear.

“Then we might as well just eat here.”Glancing over her shoulder, she flashed him her new fangs.“I can bite you...on the wrist, your neck...”She lowered her gaze even though with him pressed in behind her, she couldn’t place her eyes exactly on her mark, but she still said, “Your cock.”

Why did she let herself go there? She didn’t know. The only thing thinking of the hard length of him she’d felt pressed against her way too often did was spike her desire up again. It was bad enough that Amaros had left her unsatisfied. And she had no doubt he’d done it purposely.

He released another infuriating chuckle that had her toes curling into the luxurious sheets even as it grated.“True, if I were to allow you. However, breakfast here wouldn’t serve the purpose.”

“What purpose?”

Amaros released her.He was off the platform and halfway across the room before she realized he had let her go.Only the wisp of black smoke danced around her in his wake, sending chills of desire along the areas of her skin it brushed.

“It’s time for you to introduce food to your system and finally meet the leaders of the Coven; they have been waiting expectantly.”He walked toward the bathroom.“If you behave during breakfast, I will make sure a Prime is waiting for you after.”

“‘A Prime?’”She got up, snatched up her discarded robe on the end of the bed then slid it on.After, she took the stairs fast but continued languidly across the floor as she followed him.

“Our familiars. In human terms, they would serve in multiple ways; higher than a servant, primarily a confidant, guard, or soldier, if you will.”He entered the bathroom.

Trying to understand, Michaela brushed her hair back from her eyes, even though her bangs were too short to go further than the side of her face.“But if Prime are human, how can they be fighters?”

It didn’t make sense to her unless they were only fighting other humans because she was beginning to comprehend her level of strength and speed as a Vampire, and when she was a human, there wasn’t a way she could have battled herself and won.

Amaros rested against the long vanity when she entered the bathroom, his palms pressed on the edge and his feet crossed at the ankle. He appeared relaxed and not in a rush to end their conversation.

Michaela liked that he was patient and seemed to give her time to adjust to her new normal, new life.
