“I can see so far out.Is this how it feels when you all fly?”Morlie wondered as she stared off in the distance, seeing the different Drahk structures that comprised homes and work areas. She even saw people moving around. She got a better look at a few massive dragons flying overhead from her new vantage point. On the ground, the dragons were indistinct and looked smaller, flying so high, but now...She swallowed a gasp. The beasts were frightening even though the closest dragon was several miles away, surveying the border.

“Close,” Eilidh confirmed.

“Hey!What is that?”Anguis asked.

Eilidh shimmied to the center of the branch she was on.

However, Morlie only turned her head the other way, not wanting to risk her position in the tree and end up on the ground.

“It looks like a vehicle,” Eilidh called out.

Morlie squinted and stared out toward a field. Her sight wasn’t like theirs, and she had difficulty determining what she saw.“Is it coming this way?”

Inside the wall, many people drove old vehicles powered by recycled fluid. For weeks, she and Kai had used their dad’s truck as a place to live.

“No.The rusty blue truck is just sitting there,” Linda confirmed.

“It doesn’t seem like anyone is inside or around it,” Fafner declared.

Rusty blue.“I think it’s my dad’s truck.”

“Seriously?”Eilidh was now standing perfectly balanced on the limb when she glanced over her shoulder at Morlie.

Morlie would have been amazed at the young woman’s poise if she hadn’t been so focused on getting to the truck. She scooted closer to the tree trunk.“I need to see it.How far away is it?”

“Several miles.”Eilidh looked back in the direction of the vehicle.

“How long will it take us to get to it?Ineedto see it.”Morlie looked harder, but she could still only see that something was there. It was impossible with her human eyes to make anything out.

“If we flew, it would take us minutes.”Anguis smiled.

“But Mckenna forbid shifting...”Eilidh’s words fell away.

Morlie understood what she meant. That Aodh didn’t want them showing their dragons to her or Kai.Supposedly, the beasts were too unpredictable when it came to humans.Whatever.Right now, she couldn’t be concerned with anything but getting down out of the tree.

“Walking will take over an hour at Morlie speed. But I’m willing if you are,” Eilidh told her.

“Let’s go.”Morlie started down the tree. Each foot placement was more cautious than the ones she took coming up.

“Nice of you two to join us,’ Linda teased Saphira and Irad.

The lovers leaned casually against a tree with Fafner’s pack between them, eating handfuls of meat and nuts. They appeared more like two friends out enjoying the day instead of two people who’d spent over an hour having sex in the woods.

Morlie mentally shook her head. She’d never understand dragon-shifters.

“There better be more food in there.”Fafner snagged the sack and peered inside. He seemed satisfied by what he saw as he zipped it closed and slung it on his back.

“Of course, there is.”Saphira got to her feet.

“Hey, where is everyone headed?”Irad got up and followed them.

“There’s a human vehicle at the border.Morlie thinks it is her family’s, so we’ll check it out,” Eilidh called back to Irad and Saphira.

“An adventure.I’m down for it.”

“Me, too.”

The lovers joined the group.
