He motions to the road, where three more trucks are heading this way. “We decided to help.”
Beau and Clint climb out of one truck. Kent and Tyler climb out of another. And Dag waves as he gets out of his.
Clint puts his hands on his hips. “The other guys couldn’t get away, but I think the seven of us can handle it. Where do we start?”
“Thanks. I wasn’t expecting this.” I push open the front door. “She has pink sticky notes on the stuff that stays and blue ones on the stuff that goes to the storage unit. Everything else is going to my cabin.”
Clint steps into take-charge mode. “Tyler, we’ll load your truck and Dag’s with the stuff for the storage unit. Anything that needs to go to the other cabin will go in Parker’s and my truck.”
Everyone gets to work, and by the time Bluebonnet returns home, everything is loaded.
She slides out of her truck. “Wow. I thought Parker and I would be moving loads until late tonight.”
I ease up beside her. “They all pitched in and made quick work of it. We need to take a load to the storage unit and then all the other stuff to our place.” Our place. The words still don’t sound real.
“I can ride with Dag to the storage unit if you want to take the load to your cabin.” She smiles up at me. “Will that work?”
I like everything about her plan except the riding with Dag part. “Sure.”
“I’ll message when I’m back at the ranch.” She squeezes my hand before walking to Dag’s truck.
How in the world am I supposed to focus on moving boxes?
* * *
I’m staringat the stacks of boxes when a text from Bluebonnet pops up.
Bluebonnet:I’m outside.
I jump off the couch and yank open the door. “Hey. No trouble?”
“It went fine. Everything fit with room to spare.” She leans sideways, like she does when she’s unsure of something. “It’s not too late to change your mind.”
“You sure? Because I think maybe moving the overstuffed chair to the other side of the couch will work better. I mean, we talked about it, but I’m having second thoughts.”
She swats my arm. “You know what I mean.”
“Let me take you to dinner. At a restaurant. To celebrate the move.”
“Sure. That’ll give us time to talk. This has all been so fast, and we really haven’t talked about how things will be after. Except for the honeymoon part.”
“I booked us a place. You said the days off were fine, right?” I pull the door closed behind me, and we walk to the truck.
“Three days, but I figured at least one of those days, I’d be unpacking.”
“Good plan.” I open the passenger-side door for her. “How are you feeling?”
“Mostly good. As long as I don’t get too hungry, I’m okay. And those ginger candies you bought me really help.”
Now when we talk, it’s more like it was before when she was Paisley’s friend and I was the little brother. I love seeing her relaxed, but I wish I knew what magic would change the way she sees me.
Chapter 13
Bluebonnet
We’re just pulling out of the ranch when my phone rings. “It’s my dad.”
Parker raises his eyebrows.
