I wish I shared her optimism on that.

“Okay, let’s pay for this and go. I spotted a lingerie store near the donut shop in Stadtburg, and you need something for your wedding night. I’m going to stop talking about that before it gets weird.”

Wedding night? I’ve been so busy working, keeping myself fed, and thinking about the ceremony that I haven’t had time to worry about what happens after our I-dos.

But I have a week to worry myself silly.

Chapter 12

Parker

At breakfast Sunday morning, my sister is sitting next to Bluebonnet, and they’re both laughing. What secrets have been divulged during this visit? I do love that Bluebonnet seems less pensive.

Goldie joins their conversation, and I finish my breakfast, listening to every word.

“We found the dress.” Paisley is just teasing me now.

Goldie claps. “I’d love to see it.”

“I can show you after breakfast. It’s actually stored here at the main house. Because someone comes over to my place all the time, and the cabin is so small.”

I’m the someone.

Thankfully, the conversation moves on.

“Does he leave his socks everywhere when he’s at your cabin? That’s what he did growing up. I’d find his balled-up socks everywhere.”

“He doesn’t do that.” Bluebonnet shakes her head, emphasizing her point.

I shoot my sister a look, which only draws laughter.

She grins, but instead of tease, there’s only happiness.

Just because I’m marrying the woman of my dreams doesn’t mean I’m getting everything I want. Paisley knows the circumstances, yet she acts like Bluebonnet and I are blissfully in love. One of us is, and it isn’t Bluebonnet. She just broke off an engagement.

I’m not her first choice.

“I’m kind of teasing him. He’s grown out of that habit. But still, living with boys makes life interesting.”

I’ve been helping Bluebonnet pack up her apartment so that she can move into my place. Her place is neat. I clean up after myself, but is my cabin clean enough?

It will be by the time she moves in. I’ll make sure of it.

When Goldie says her goodbyes, I pick up my plate. “Bluebonnet, I’m going to get a few things done. I figured you might have more shopping to do with Paisley.”

“We’re just hanging out at my cabin for a while. You can come by later if you want.”

“Sure.” I bump Paisley on the shoulder. “See you later. Don’t make me sound too bad.”

“Not possible.” She stands up and hugs me. Out of my family of six, she’s the huggiest of them all, even more so than my mom.

I slip out and run to catch up with Goldie. “Hey, have a sec?”

“Yeah, what’s up?”

After a quick survey to make sure Paisley and Bluebonnet aren’t right behind me, I say, “Bluebonnet is moving in with me, and I want the cabin to be clean.”

“Parker, I’ve told you before that I don’t mind adding your place to my rounds. I clean Dag’s cabin, so I’m right near yours.”
