“Being the Divine’s Vessel will give me everything I have ever wanted. It’s all I have worked toward my whole life, Eden.” Seriousness takes over his face and body. His eyes never leave mine as he stands to his full height, towering over me. “Iwillbe the next Vessel of the Divine.”

When I get back to my new home the community provided, I hustle into the bathroom. I twist the water knob to as hot as it would go and pull the shower door closed.
I want to wash this whole day off of me, but I also need to cover up my conversation just in case someone is listening in.
Who? I have no fucking clue, but it’s better to be safe than sorry when you are undercover in a goddamn cult.
The line doesn’t ring more than twice before Hunter answers.
“She is fucking here, Hunter,” I hiss into the phone, waiting for the water to get hot enough to sanitize my skin.
“She?” Hunter yawned on the other end of theline.
“Elliott! She is a part of Everton and not just that. She is linked to the Donovans!” I whisper-yell.
“Elliott? The girl who has your boxer briefs in a bunch, that Elliott?”
It sounds like he is trying to answer the question himself rather than wanting me to answer it.
“Yes,” I say, letting my hand fall to my legs with a thud. Rolling my eyes, I pace the spacious bathroom tile flooring.
“From the bar? That Elliott?”
Now he has to be fucking with me.
“Yes, yes. Keep up, man, jeez.”
“This isn’t good, Kam.”
His voice flattens.
“I know.” I let out a tired breath.
“Great.” Marcus huffs out a breath of irritation in the background.
Am I on speaker phone?
“Wait, are you in Hunter’s bed right now? Am I interrupting more than just sleep?”
Raising my brows, I let my mind wander to picture the two of them bare chested and tangled in Hunter’s sheets.
“Not only can she blow your cover, but she is gonna get in the way of you doing this fucking job.”
He completely ignores my question. I mean, I shouldn’t be asking that right now anyway. I don’t know why it would be a problem. It wouldn’t be the first time they shared a bed together naked. But jealousy kicks in nonetheless.
“She won’t get in the way of shit, Marcus. I think someone just wishes I wasn’t here alone with her.”
“Oh yeah, Kam. I’m so worried that shit is gonna happen while you are in Everton, the creepy cult community. I doubt she will even see you around,” he says between laughs.
I grind my teeth, not only bothered by his jealousy but maybe a little turned on by it, which didn’t help. But I also hate the fact he is right. It’s gonna drive me crazy having her around and not being able to talk to her freely or touch her how I wanted.
“Shut it, Flores.”
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you, Kam?” he spits at me through the phone.
