Squeaking, I tried not to vomit as the arms spun me around and around.
“My Seth,” Kal practically shouted in my ear. “We can reaffirm our bond.”
“My congratulations,” Zoltilvoxfyn said, setting a pot down and dusting his hands off. “But you might want to put Seth down. Are humans supposed to look green?”
My feet connected with the ground, and I was jerked around. Kal hovered in front of me. “We can reaffirm our bond.”
“Your father told me as much.”
His breath was heavy, and his hands held my hips tightly. “Can I kiss you?”
“We have an audience.”
Kal looked toward his brother who watched us unabashedly. His arms came around me and his wings snapped open, lifting us into the air. Quicker than I thought possible, we were in our room. Alone.
“Now can I kiss you?”
I tugged his lips down to mine, not bothering to answer.
Chapter 50
Happily Ever After.
I stood in front of the glass doors with an eerie sense of familiarity. For a moment, I felt as if I was back on the Admiral Ven and bonding, well marrying, Kal for the first time. This time, I knew what was happening, and Kal stood beside me.
Snuggling next to his side, I sighed. Happy. It was ridiculous how happy I was. “I love you.”
His fingers tightened around mine. “I love you too.”
“So how does this work?”
“It’s simple. We place our hands on the Crystal. It will bind us together forever,” he said. “My family, Talvax, Urgg, and Monqilcolnen will be there.”
“It won’t reject me for being human, right?”
“No,” he said. “Many drakcol have bonded with different species.”
“Should I call you mate now?”
“If you want.”
“I like calling you babe more.”
“Then you should do that,” he said, lips not far from mine, but he didn’t kiss me. Kal respected my boundaries.
“You and me, forever.”
“If the teachings are correct, our very souls will be linked together by the Crystal and we’ll spend eternity together,” he said, voice a whisper.
“I don’t want to spend a day without you.”
He grinned, but before he said anything, the doors, flush with the glass walls, slid open.
The long building of the sanctuary stretched before me. The walls and cathedral ceiling were all glass, giving it an airy feeling. Green moss coated the floor, and trees, vines, and plants grew throughout the building, making me feel like I was in a greenhouse.
All of Kal’s family plus Talvax, Urgg, who blubbered, and Monty stood in a circle around a giant Crystal in the center. The bright white Crystal floated, sending out vibrations and giving an eerie hum. It felt alive, if that was possible.
My heart pounded in time with it as we slowly approached.
