His arms slipped around my waist. “I came back.”
“You did. Are you ready to leave?”
Seth asked, “Wyn, can you still take care of Lucy?”
“Yes,” he said before swallowing.
Urgg held him up. “I’ll get him sober. Your Lucy will be fine.”
“Thanks,” he said before turning back to me. “I’m ready.”
“Let’s go,” I said, unable to wait a single moment more.
Chapter 36
Who would've thought rain would be my favorite?
I snuggled against Kal, watching the water slide across the glass. “Where are we going?”
“To a house next to a lake.”
I felt awkward and wanted to crawl under the seat to hide, yet at the same time, I wanted to kiss Kal and never stop.
“I think you’ll like it. At least I hope you will.”
Hearing the nervousness in his voice and feeling the tension in his body, stirred a protective urgency. I placed a soft kiss on hispalm before rubbing it against my cheek. “It’ll be great. You’re going to take me flying, right?”
“If you want.”
“I do, very much so.”
The shuttle landed on the edge of a pristine lake. The blue water lapped against the white rocky shore. Rain fell from the sky in sheets, and the air held a chill. I skipped out of the shuttle, mud splattering my legs, and glanced back at Kal, who watched me. I held out a hand, and he immediately moved to my side, dropping our bag on the wet ground.
As soon as the shuttle was out of sight, I demanded, “Take me flying.”
His wings burst out of the slits in the back of his shirt. I traced one with my fingertips, and Kal’s eyes darkened as he licked his lips.
“You don’t mind me touching them?” I asked.
His wings enclosed me, solid and secure. “I like it.”
I pointed at the clouded sky.
He placed my arms around his neck before holding me securely. His wings beat a few times, straining. I was about to ask if hecouldfly with me when we lifted off the ground. I practically strangled Kal, and my heart thrashed against my ribs.
His mouth pressed against my ear. “I won’t drop you. Trust me, my Seth.”
His wings beat a steady rhythm as we moved through the sky. The clouds continued to weep, soaking us. Kal moved toward the lake, and I peered down, which was a bad idea. An immediate sense of vertigo swept through me. I squeezed Kal, unable to take my gaze off the crystal water, teeming with sparklingly fish.
Kal’s nose dragged along my ear before he whispered, “You're safe.”
We flew for a while before shivers wracked my body from the rain and wind. Kal lowered to the ground, and I released a moan of protest.
“You’re cold.”
“I’m f-fine, Babe.”
He laughed, and my eyes closed so I could savor the deep, rumbly sound. Hands fisted in his tunic, I yanked his lips to mine. Tugging, I maneuvered to the ground, mud soaking the back of my jacket. My mouth attacked his as I rocked against him. Kal gripped my hips, meeting each of my movements with his own until we rutted against each other.
