I got out of the car and the first thing that hit me was the heat. I mentally cursed myself for putting on a black top but then realized that I didn’t bring anything else so that means I have to go clothes shopping- how splendid.

Nathan carried our bags inside while Darius went in to get the owner. She was a short plump woman with graying hair and kind eyes. I almost felt bad for my earlier comment but I couldn’t really bring myself to feel anything but disdain for the entire town.

“Welcome to Bea’s.” Her voice was as kind as her eyes, “Darius tells me that you need a place for the week. We have two rooms that you will both love. They overlook the lake and it has the best view over.”

I let out a breath of relief when I heard two rooms. I wouldn’t want to make things awkward like last night by spending another night with Nathan.

The thought of last night made me think about this morning and how it felt to be pressed against, stop it.

Bea led us to our rooms which were coincidentally right next to each other and as soon as I had thanked Darius, I rushed inside.

The room wasn’t bad to be honest. It was bigger than the motel’s and it came with a bed, a wooden table and chair. I set my box in front of the wardrobe and was about to check out the view when my phone rang. It was Olivia and I picked it up immediately.

“Are you really going on a weeklong break or did someone steal your phone?” she said as a way of greeting and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.

“Believe me; I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t have to.”

“What happened?”

I explained everything to her from the moment the car refused to start to my horrible time at the hotel but I left out the part about Nathan and I kissing.

“You’re telling me that the car stopped, just like that.” I hummed and she swore, “That’s awesome.”

“That is not awesome; that is terrible.”

She scoffed, “You are stuck alone with that fine piece of man candy for a week. I would say that is as awesome as it gets.”

“We work together Olivia,” I reminded him, “I don’t mix business and pleasure, besides I am not particularly interested in any men right now.”

I don’t know who I was trying to convince, myself or her.

“Okay fine, let’s assume you don’t want to bang him,” I let out a sigh at her crude nature, “You have your first vacation in forever. Enjoy it.”

“If I wanted a vacation then I would take one in Paris or Italy.”

“Listen, I know you have some obvious misplaced hatred for towns but it might be better than you think.” She exhaled deeply when I didn’t respond, “Just try to have some fun, I’ll talk to you later, love you.”

“Love you too.”

She hung up right after and I looked around the room that was going to be my home for the next week. The more I looked, the more annoyed I got so I decided to step out onto the balcony for fresh air.

I stepped out onto the balcony and I hate that I had to admit but she was right. The balcony overlooked a large expanse of land. Various trees and flowers grew over it and I knew it was tightly managed because not a flower was out of place. Further into the trees lay a small lake that was undisturbed.

“I have to give it to her, it is a good view,” I jumped slightly and saw Nathan leaning over the balcony railing.

Our balconies were connected and all he had to do was walk a few steps and he would be standing right next to me.

“It’s an okay view I guess,” I shrugged and he shook his head in disbelief.

“Why are you so determined to hate the place?”

“I’m not determined to hate it, I already hate it.”

“I wonder why that is.” He mused aloud, “You’ve probably never been here or even to any small town. What made you hate it so much?”

“You ask too many questions.”

“Let’s pretend it is part of a session. I’m trying to get to know you.” I raised a brow at him, “Humor me.”
