Flying is easy for a Dragon. Don’t let your mind take control. Your body knows what to do.

Ash swallowed and turned around, gripping the edge with his foretalons.

Tyrez’s sexy voice rolled through his head.I’ll be beside you all the way. And if you falter, I will catch you.

Tyrez had caught him before in his dreams. Ash had little doubt he could do it again if he must.

With me now. One, two... Three.

On three, Tyrez swept his tail beneath Ash and pushed him over the edge.

As he dropped like a stone, Ash’s mind screamed in pure terror. But it was so occupied with that, it allowed his body to do what it instinctively knew how to do.

It spread his wings.

Instantly, the drop slowed down. And then, as he beat them, he stabilized.

Tyrez was a huge shadow directly above him. That’s it. Follow me.

Ash flapped, a little clumsily at first but with increasing confidence as he followed Tyrez upward. They passed through a bank of clouds. He almost panicked when his guide vanished, but then the tip of the turquoise tail appeared right in front of his nose.

I will never leave you.

It was almost a vow. Ash relaxed and let himself soar.

They broke out above the clouds, and he gasped. The moons painted them with silver, layers upon layers dancing with movement. The grasslands far below stretched for miles in each direction. But as Tyrez took them over the mountains, Ash saw forests too. And an ocean.

It’s so beautiful.

This is what it means to be Dragon,Tyrez said softly in his mind.

To be Dragon. He’d never been one, until now. Not really. Tyrez had given him back the missing piece of himself.

His heart swelled to bursting. Tyrez banked, and Ash mimicked the tilt of his wings, following him. Then the big Dragon folded them tight to his body, and let gravity take hold.

Heart in his mouth, Ash followed. The wind whistled past his body.

Make the wind your bitch,Tyrez laughed in his mind. She is yours to command.

Where did you get that from?

The bitch thing? A Sabre friend of mine.He angled a wing, and his trajectory altered.

Ash copied him, reveling in the power as they plummeted back through the clouds, trailing bits of vapor.

Then Tyrez opened his wings wide and leveled out. Ash wobbled, but succeeded at about a hundred feet lower.

Very good, the big Dragon rumbled in his mind. But it is time to go back.

Back? I don’t want to go back.

You may be Dragon, but you have to build your muscles slowly. Unless you want to go splat.

He didn’t want to go splat.Okay. So we’re landing?

We’re attempting to land.Tyrez was taking them lower and lower. Already, they’d passed the ledge they’d leaped off of.

What do you mean, attempting? If flying is instinctive, isn’t landing as well?
