Lachlan looked confused. “But I’m about to take her.”

The door to the cottage flung open as Sorcha walked out, dragging a very confused Naomi behind her. Sorcha declared, “Lachlan, plans have changed. I need you to remain here with me. I cannot go to the village today.”

“Then why am I here?” Kieran asked.

“Naomi is going to the village instead. I have a list of items I want her to gather for me.”

Naomi and Kieran both whipped their heads towards Sorcha.

“When did you decide this?” Naomi asked.

“Right now. I forgot about it until I saw Kieran.”

Kieran replied, “But you are the one who sent me a message to be here.” He then glared at Sorcha.

Naomi frowned at the thought of Kieran’s obvious dislike to be in her company, so she said, “Sorcha, there is no need. I can go to the village alone.”

“What if I take Naomi and Kieran remains here?” Lachlan asked.

“No, Lachlan, stop interfering. I do not need Kieran here,” Sorcha snapped.

“Then why the hell did you send word to me at all?” Kieran growled.

“Kieran, dinnae argue with me. Tis not polite to rile a woman who is with child.”

“What has that got to do with anything?” Kieran growled.

Lachlan finally realized what was going on and said, “Kieran, dinnae argue. Accompany Naomi and I’ll remain here.”

“Fine. I dinnae care either way anymore,” Kieran muttered under his breath.

His response made Naomi flinch slightly, realizing he must really hate her. She remained silent, determined to lose him once she got to the village.
