I snort as my nose scrunches. “Come on, O. You know how much I love you and Aries but you did not need to remind me that you two have sex.”

“I thought you were a changed female now that you got theDon the regular. Hey, speaking of your mate.” I laugh harder because this is making me both really happy and very uncomfortable. “Did he tell you how we found him?”

With a shake of my head, I watch my cousin reenact the day he and Aries found Wraith after he’d been in hiding so long. He even does a terrible impression of how my mate angrily peed on a statue of Atticus, and he shows me how he punched the sense back into him.

And I giggle my ass off the entire time becausethisis how things are supposed to be with Orion.

He was my first friend, my only friend for so long, and he’s been the best of the best that entire time. Our relationship is too important to me to let anything knock us out of sync, and sitting here with him now reminds me exactly why I can’t ever let anything like this happen again.

Because wow, I really missed him, too.

Gods, my stomach hurts.

I slowly sit up in bed, both hands over my belly as it grumbles, which is when I realize it’s not my stomach, it can’t be.

Wraith got up about an hour ago, maybe two, and he made sure to wake me up to tell me he was going down to the study to work on it for a bit. Since it was him, he informed me of his plans for the night with his hand on my throat and his erection already halfway inside me, and then we both fed after some fast and hard morning sex.

Well, morning for us, anyway.

Regardless, I’m not hungry at all, and it’s not my belly that hurts.

If that means what I think it means, these next few days are going to suck.

Definitely explains a lot, though.

Waiting for the intense cramp to pass, I look around the room and try to picture it finished.

So far, my wicked king has had people out to make sure the electric and plumbing are all up to snuff, and he had the foundation checked just to be safe since we’re closer to a bayou and swamp than either of us have been before. He also had professional cleaners come out to give the house a once over, it definitely needed it, and Orion had one of his human bouncers who is also going to law school, come out to help us get things set up so we could officially buy the house. I thought that should have been the first thing we did but Wraith assured me the order of events didn’t matter as long as they all got done.

Apparently feeling more like himself means that he is above any and all laws, once again.

That’s about all that’s been done to our new house, though.

We’ve all been a little distracted with various things going on so it’s still pretty bare but we have toilets, the ability to shower, and there are beds. Ultimately we don’t need much more than that but once all of this crap with Drusilla is over, I’m going to decorate this house top to bottom because it’s ours, and I can.

It really does feel like ours, too.

I watched Wraith as we moved through the bayou and the swamp, as we got to more stable land and found ourselves tucked pretty far back amongst Louisiana’s deeper forests.

He knew where he was going.

I don’t think he realized it but my mate knew exactly where he was going and the way he knew exactly where to step and what to avoid, it was like he’d been here before. And that validated everything Lorna told me about how Faya chose this land for our people. She said it was the home of her children, that theirmyjakwould be strongest here, and the first ever queen of the race knew it was because her son would drain themyjakfrom their homeland.

That’s the real reason they migrated to the U.S.

I’m not sure if Wraith knows that either but Atticus had to relocate because each time he spilled blood from Kadoc’s line on ground chosen by Xenith, the natural gifts given to them were depleted. After all three of Wraith’s siblings were dead, he had no choice, and he banned the use of any talents the race had because of it.

So, they came here since Atticus knew his mother had chosen the area, he knew of the prophecy, and that horrible male figured this is where he had to be if he wanted to fight it. Problem was, not using what the gods gave us weakened the entire race, and that’s why we lost the Species War.

That and the fact that Atticus also eliminated his sister and those of her line during it. More of Kadoc’s bloodline was lost, and that meant he was weaker than before, forcing us to draw up a treaty with humans that led to our current state of affairs.

My love for history really made the massive and divine info dump easier to handle once I had things straightened out.
