Then I cried.
Big, fat, happy tears. The kind I was worried about never experiencing again but I did, and the concept of time or responsibilities sort of just flew out the window after that.
“Zephyr?”
Smiling likeI’mthe idiot, I wiggle a little closer and sigh. “Yes, honey?”
“Oh, how I love you,” he says with a smirk and a shake of his head. “But I need you to focus.”
I blink, once, twice then straighten my spine when I force myself to do just that. “Faya.”
Wraith’s head jerks back as if I’d just slapped him, his brow furrowed so deep he could lick his forehead. He says nothing, though, just waits for me to elaborate.
“She chose the land.”
“Faya?”
I nod.
“Faya of Carmarthen?”
“Mhm,” I turn in his lap, wrapping my arm around his neck. “What aren’t you following, baby?”
He shakes his head in disbelief as he scoffs, “Faya, love. I’m notfollowinghow my bloody grandmother somehow managed to pinpoint New Orleans, Louisiana before it existed.” I open my mouth to explain but my mate talks right over me. “Not to mention, she was allegedly murdered before I entered triple digits, which means she was long gone before we came here. You know this, you must. If not from Lorna, definitely from whatever horrors you saw in Atticus’s mind since he was the one who allegedly murdered his mother.”
Oh boy, here we go.“Faya chose this land, she knew it was full ofmyjakbecause… well, because she was the daughter of Hecate, which makes her a witch sincethe witchis technically your great grandmother, and I saw it in that terrible male’s head. But Lorna did tell me what happened, too, and she did because, surprise, she’s Faya’s sister and that means she’s your aunt, and I figure it’s best if I get that all out of the way first so you can digest it.”
I take a deep breath after word vomiting all over Wraith, who’s jaw goes slack and eyes go wide, then wait for him to do something. Anything. All the things. Yelling, growling. Arguing. Cursing the gods or his parents. I don’t know what he should be doing but I was expecting some sort of bomb to go off andinstead, my mate is absolutely speechless. And I’ve never seen him without words before.
“Wraith?” I slowly lift my hand and place it on his cheek. “Honey, are you ok? Do you?—”
“Christ, no wonder why she wanted to kill me.”
“What?”
“Hecate,” he grunts before he starts to laugh. “Oh, it makes so much bloody sense now.”
Uhm, no it doesn’t.
I have no idea what the hell he’s talking about, and that’s with thinking I had a pretty good handle on all the crap I learned during our time apart.
“I’ll explain later.” My mate waves his hand dismissively through the air before taking my hand, turning it, and pressing a kiss to my palm. “Continue. You have my full attention.”
“Ok.” Nodding slowly, I arch a brow but do as he asks. “Faya was an oracle, and she was critical in Kadoc’s reign.”
“As you are to mine.”
Looks like that stupid smile is back.“Yes, and they were fated mates, too. The first fated mates because Xenith not only wanted his bloodline to continue, he knew that Kadoc and anyone who shared his genetics was going to need someone to balance your egomaniacal asses out.”
“So, it is true then? Kadoc was the son of Xenith?”
Rolling my eyes, I nod because I knowexactlywhere he’s going with this. “Yes, Wraith, you’re full of all kinds of divine DNA and any claim you’ve ever made to be a god isn’t that far from fact.”
“Oh, I do enjoy hearing that from you, my love. But again, for the sake of time, I’m assuming this is all related to the things you spoke of before, your visions and connections to Lorna?”
I nod but I wait to see how much of this my mate can figure out on his own.
After the massive info dump I received against my will, I was able to piece together much more of what I saw from Atticus when we made contact.
