Page 88 of His Curse
“It’s nothing. I’m just really glad Colton and I are a part of your clan.”
“And we are really glad to have you both in it.”
“How about we wait until after this whole mess with Kentworth is resolved, then you can decide whether to vote us out or not.”
Vok laughs and holds out his right hand, palm up. “Do you see this, Luna?”
There’s a faint scar, a jagged one that starts just under his pinky and runs diagonally toward his thumb.
“This has been scored but seven times in my five hundred plus years and I anticipate that it shall be scored a few more before I decide I’ve had enough.” His thumb smoothes over the part it can reach as we both watch. “Do you know what it means?”
“A blood oath?”
“Very good,” Vok says, his tone laced with a hint of pride.
“One of the vampires I knew at the lab, Natalie, she told me a lot about the old ways and how blood oaths were super important in your culture.”
“They are. Very important and not to be taken lightly, which is why, after flesh is scored, we add a touch of silver to the wound so it scars. Would you like to guess who I have shared my blood oath with?”
I smirk up at him. “Well, considering the way Cora talks about them, I’d imagine four belong to your dragon brothers.”
“Yes. My dragon brothers as well as their father—myfather, the only one I will ever recognize as truth.” Vok stares at his palm a little longer then meets my eyes. “And I have shared it with the demon as well as our lone wolf. They are the family of my heart, my chosen clan, and I’ve offered my blood oath to them and only them in order to solidify that in the only way my kind can. Which means, my blood oath extends to their mates and young, and that, my lovely little wolf, is why there will be novoting anyone out. We are all stuck together, whether we like it or not.”
“Well, if the rest of the clan is anything like you, I think I’m going to like beingstuck togethera hell of a lot.” I lean over and press a kiss to Vok’s cheek but the second I pull back, a cold shot of pain rockets down my spine.
“Lark… “ he says as I cringe. “Are you… “ Havok’s eyes dart down the hall and when I wince again, we both get to our feet.
“Something isn’t… something is—”
“Very fucking wrong.”
In a flash, Vok and I are running toward the staircase, him panicked, me trying not to puke from the pain that is churning in my gut, but when we get to the bottom of the stairs, we freeze.
My blood practically jumps under my skin, nearly screams in recognition as a distorted and inhuman sound comes from the hall above.
It’s a growl.
A low, dangerous growl that doesn’t belong to my mate, not really, but I know it all the same.
Which is why, when Vok tries to run past me up the stairs, I stick my arm out in front of him and snap my teeth. “I go first.”
“Like hell you do. I have no fucking idea what’s up there other than my family and I will be damned if I allow you to—”
“I. Go. First.”
His red eyes search mine briefly and whatever it is that he sees, Havok nods once and lets me lead us.
And there, toward the end of the hall, is my mate’s worst nightmare come to life.

LARK
“What the fuck isthat?” Havok hisses from behind me, and for a second, I’m surprised he doesn’t know. Then again, I doubt my Colton is walking around broadcasting his curse to everyone, even those I know he loves like they’re his own.
“Cora, angel, go inside that—”
