With a nod, I slump back onto the stool and stir the water with my straw. “Right. Ok. I’ll run it by him then.”

“I’ll talk to him.” Ember smiles then reaches under the bar and produces a clipboard. “Before I do, let me get the interview questions out of the way. Having all the facts and stats to present when I discuss your request might sway things in your favor. Plus, I like you. You’ve got the look and I think you’ll bring in a decent crowd.”

“Thanks.” I roll my lips between my teeth. “I appreciate that.”

“Just being honest. Ok, so, real name?”

“Tate Covington.”

“Stage name?”

“I don’t have one.” Not one I want to use anyway. I’d like to keep my old life dead and buried and the one Gino gave me, Bella, is one I despise for about a million reasons.

Ember looks me over again as she taps the pen to her chin. “Cordelia.” She scribbles that down without another thought. “It rolls with your dark fairy vibe and in Shakespeare’s King Lear, she’s his favorite daughter. The strong, stoic type that won’t stoop to anyone’s level and does what she thinks is right no matter what. She doesn’t kiss anyone’s ass regardless of how it could change things for her. It suits you.”

“Ok,” I beam at her because I really like that.

“How many years of experience?”

“About eight, give or take.”

“Height?”

“Five-foot-six.”

“Nice. Weight?”

“135.”

“Measurements?”

“44, 32, 38.”

“Cup size?”

“Double D.”

Ember jots all of this down without looking up. “Availability?”

“Anytime really.” Then I pause. “I do have a four-year-old. My sister can watch him whenever I need her to but if there’s ever an emergency— “

“No problem.” She finally looks up and smiles. “A few of the other girls are moms, so we know how it goes. Preferred hours?”

I shrug. “Nights, which is why I’m here. I have... other responsibilities during the day right now, but they shouldn’t interfere. They’re not long term.”

“Good deal. How many days a week can you work?”

“As many as possible. I’m trying to get back on my feet and I need the money to pay for an apartment and a car. All that stuff.”

“How soon can you start?”

My stomach twists a little. “Well, I need to make sure I have a set schedule so my sister is good. And my daytime commitment is a little messy and I’d like to establish something more solid there so I don’t leave anyone hanging. I’d like to start as soon as possible though.”Since Spider apparently can’t stand having me around anymore.

“So if we were to hire you, would a week to get things situated be enough?”

I think for a minute.

It doesn’t give me much time to find a place for Nadine or someone to fill in for me, but if I talk to Spider and explain that I got a job, one that means I’ll only be gone when his mother is sleeping, maybe I can get him to agree to be home then. Worst case scenario: if he gets pissed and kicks us out, James and I can stay with Dori. I’ll be there helping her pack anyway, and since she and Zak are willing to take James, it would make things easier, but it’ll be cramped. Not because her apartment is small, it’s not, but because Fabio and GTO share the spare room right now there isn’t any furniture in it. We can handle the couch for a couple of weeks if needed though.
