“I told them I’d meet up with them,”shesaid.
“That was before you realized how crazy the scene would be,”hesaid.
“Right.” She sat down next to him. “This place is outtasight.”
“Someone said Joe Cocker’s coming on next. I hope he plays ‘With A Little Help From MyFriends.’”
“I can’t believe we get to see all these bands, man. When your dad said we could go, I almost freaked. I can’t believe who’s playing—The Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Jefferson Airplane. Man, when they sang ‘White Rabbit’ I almost came out of my body. That song’sfarout.”
“I’m glad you’re having fun, hon,”hesaid.
“Are you having fun?” sheasked.
“I’m covered in mud, it hasn’t stopped raining, and I could eat my left arm. It’s great.” Helaughed.
“We can go grab some food in a bit. There are a few people serving brown rice and vegetables. I’ve seen cups of granola floating around too,”shesaid.
Although they were at least a hundred yards back from the stage, when the first strings of guitar blasted through the speakers, a rush of excitement flooded hermuscles.
“I want to dance,” shedeclared.
“Allright.”
Greg slid off the edge of the roof and landed on his feet. He reached up and caught her around the waist as she inched down. When her feet touched the muddy earth, all of the energy in the crowd flowed through her like electricity. She lifted her hands overhead and felt the music in her soul. She swayed and whirled and twisted with the music. When she opened her eyes, Greg stood next to her and stared inwonder.
“I can’t believe you’re going to be my wife,”hesaid.
“We should get married as soon as we get back,”shesaid.
“We will. I don’t want to wait anothersecond.”
As he picked her up and spun her in a circle, she shrieked. He set her down and they danced around the bus, stopping only to watch some people jam on their drums. Clouds of sweet-scented pot smoke billowed through the air. She couldn’t feel the cold anymore. She could only feel the love. Greg’s and thecrowd’s.
Another cloudburst of rain drenched her shirt. It clung to her, leaving nothing to the imagination. Other women pranced around naked, but she wasn’t going to put her body on display for anyone but Greg. She grabbedhishand.
“Let’s get in the bus,” she saidseductively.
His eyes lit up as he pulled her hard against him. Rivulets of water streamed down his face. When their lips met, she melted against his hard body. He walked her backward until the backs of her thighs hit the edge of the bus. She giggled and pulled away to climbinside.
After he joined her, she reached to pull the door shut, but before she did, she yelled, “If this van’s a rockin’, don’t come aknockin’.”
A small group of people near the bus cheered. She grinned as she slammed the doorclosed.
When she turned to Greg, he was already wiggling out of his wet jeans. He’d been shirtless since they’d parked the previous morning. They’d made love too many times to count, but she couldn’t get enoughofhim.
He laid a blanket down on the floor, and then lay down on his back. She joined him. He pulled a second blanket over them. She trailed her fingers over hischest.
“Maybe we should be careful since I’m not on the pill,”shesaid.
“I wouldn’t mind starting our family right away,”hesaid.
“Your parents will freak if they have bastards forgrandkids.”
“They’ll never know,” he said as he leaned over to nuzzle her neck. “We’ll insist on getting married the second we get home. I loveyou, babe.”
“I love you too,” shewhispered.
His hands glided across her back, leaving trails of fire in their wake. But that wasn’t the only way he was making her burn for him. By the time he’d finished kissing and licking and sucking her neck and breasts, she couldn’t wait anothersecond.
