She opened her mouth to say something, but stopped when Starburst flew into the room. He flew around the room and then landed on her foot. That was the first time I’d seen him not land somewhere that wasn’t high. Fable put her hand out, and he walked up her leg until he reached it, then switched to her hand and moved to her shoulder.
“Bitch nigga!” Starburst yelled at me, and I flipped him off. “Bitch!”
“I hate you, lil nigga,” I said, then turned and left her room. There was no reason to lock her inside any longer. With the ankle monitor on, I knew exactly where she was at all times, and I had cameras installed throughout my house. There was nowhere she could hide.
I went to my office, grabbed my phone from the desk, and then sat. Even though I knew where Javien Jr. was, I couldn’t say the same about his daddy. I pulled up Nine’s contact information and then hit the send button.
“Yeah?” he answered on the second ring.
“I need another location,” I said, getting straight to the point. “Or really an update on a location.”
“For?”
“Javien Sr.”
“Nigga moving around like he doesn’t have a care in the world,” Nine answered. “My wife informed me yesterday that he showed his face at your woman's bakery last week.”
“Why?” I sat back in my seat and ran my hand over my face. He knew that I was looking for him and that one of his children was dead and two were missing. For him to be walking around as if it were no big deal was crazy to me.
“Don’t know,” he answered. “I told her to sit still, but you know that will only last so long. Especially since Xoey plus twelve is asking questions, too.”
“Me and the twelve had an agreement,” I sighed. “I gave her Junior; Senior is mine. I want to kill that nigga for just being a weak nigga, fuck-ass father. The only thing he ever did right was help bring Fable into the world. The rest of the shit ain’t worth mentioning.”
“You hate that nigga that much?” Nine laughed. “Over some damn money.”
“Nah, it's about the respect for your seed. He fucked over Javien, but that nigga was a willing participant, just like Melissa’s ass. But Fable?” I shook my head. “Baby just wanted to be left the fuck alone; she was baking her cookies and cakes, living her fucking life. He ain’t have to bring her into shit.”
“I meant to ask, how did she get involved? From what Xoey told me, she doesn’t even fuck with them niggas like that.”
“She doesn’t.” I pulled up the cameras in my room and watched as she continued to work on her recipes. I was looking forward to seeing her in the kitchen every day. A part of me thought about setting up a small office in there to be around her while she works. “I only found out about her because Javien Jr. said she could pay his debt.”
“I remember,” he replied. “Bitch ass nigga is no better than they pop with that shit.”
“Exactly,” I said. “She was living her life and not bothering anybody.” I let out a small laugh. “I mean, I ain’t too mad because that’s how she got on my radar, but I hate that it had to be this way.”
“So, what are you trying to do?”
“Marry her,” I laughed, even though I was serious as hell. “But before I can do that, I gotta take care of his ass. I need him to look her in the eyes and tell her he is a fuck nigga, even though she knows it already.”
“And her brother?”
“The twelve got him; I don’t care what she does with him,” I answered.
“Her Pop’s location is in your folder,” he said. “Anything else?”
“Yeah.” I opened the encrypted folder he sent me and reviewed the information. Yeah, Javien Sr. was moving too got damn freely for my liking. Nigga was only loyal to himself. I couldn’t have anybody like that in Fable’s life or associated with her. “I’m thinking of throwing a party in a few weeks, y’all gonna be available?”
“If we aren’t, we will be,” he replied. “Send Cross the information so we can make sure we got a sitter.”
“Bet,” I said, nodding.
“Let me get off here and go check on my son. He in his feelings about getting his ass kicked by some girl in his karate class,” Nine said, then kissed his teeth.
“Alright, man,” I laughed. “Tell lil bro to keep his head up; the best women usually beat our ass a few times.”
“Exactly,” he said, then ended the call.
I checked over the files one last time, trying to get a feel of what the fuck Javien Sr. was up to. He had never been in one place for long, and when he showed his face, it was to collect money. The grown man in me wondered if he was trying to get his money to collect for his son, but the realist in me knew that wasn’t the case. More than likely, he was collecting so he could get the fuck out of the country. The crazy thing was, my reach wasn’t just in the US. There wasn’t a border that could keep me out.
