I felt like I had to really point that out.

Keely laughed, and Copper shot her a look.

I raised a questioning brow, and Keely answered with a smile in her voice.

“Copper would die before he’d impregnate a woman out of wedlock,” she explained. “He has this hero complex and feels like he has to do everything ‘right’ now that he’s done everything in the past ‘wrong.’”

My brows rose as I turned to the man and said, “What, exactly, have you done wrong?”

“Killing my dad,” he mumbled as he took a seat.

“That seems like the most right thing that has ever happened,” I said. “He’s not here to hurt anyone anymore. He could’ve done it to more people. Hell, he could’ve had more kids and done it to them. It was very valiant and brave. Plus, your sister Keely here gets to live her life with the knowledge that the man who abused her is no longer breathing the same air as her.”

Keely beamed at me. “From your lips to God’s ear.”

Copper sighed and went full business. “We have to call Lynch in and let him know that he’s being demoted.”

“Oh, fun.” Keely rolled her eyes. “Do I have to be here for that?”

“No,” he said. “Though, I thought you might enjoy it, since Reign was able to uncover how much money he’s been siphoning out of our accounts, acting like it was for a really important cause.”

“To him, getting blow jobs by hookers was a good cause,” Keely said. “How’s Reign?”

Who was Reign?

Copper shrugged, as if whomever this Reign person was, wasn’t important enough for him to look into more. “Still has issues.”

It was a relief to know that Reign wasn’t that important to him.

“I can’t believe I missed all those signs,” she shook her head. “Silver said that she saw Webber and Reign’s nephew yesterday.”

“That she did,” Copper said. “But we’ll talk about that later because…”

His phone rang.

He answered it on speaker and said, “Yes, Millicent?”

“Mr. Lynch is here,” who I assumed was his assistant said over speakerphone.

“Okay, send him in.”

Copper hit the button without hanging up, and Keely took the chance to dart out of the room. “Let me know if you need anything, Baker. I’m here!”

I nodded once and took the time to set up my own station in the corner of the room on Copper’s couch.

I sank into the plush pillows and started pulling up the program I would need to get my brothers and dad set up on getting some jobs.

There were more than usual thanks to my mom and sister missing, but it wasn’t undoable.

At least I was out of my old house.

I was more productive in the five minutes waiting on Mr. Lynch to come into the office than I’d been all day yesterday.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Copper pick up his phone.

“Where’s Lynch?” Copper asked shortly.

“He, uh, went to go grab coffee from the lounge because he said that you were taking too long to answer the phone,” Millicent said softly.
