Page 34 of Who Said Mobsters Were Scary?
I remain under the shower until my skin wrinkles up. By the time I’ve sprawled myself on the bed after toweling the water off my body, it’s 3:30 a.m. I vaguely remember not replying to Chai or checking what his latest message is, but I’m already drifting off from post-orgasm bliss and in no condition to deal with it right now.
I don’t get up until noon the next morning. Fortunately, it’s the weekend and I have no classes. I go through my morning routine and head to the first floor in search of Naomi, whom I find in the lounge, watching a documentary about alien abductions.
“He wakes,” she says with a hint of mockery and fake reverence in her voice, flicking stray hair behind her ear. She’s wearing a red crop top and gray camo cargo pants today. “How late did you stay out?”
Creepy music plays on the screen as a woman heads down the stairs of a dark house. She goes to the kitchen, still not turning the lights on, and opens the fridge, not noticing the dark outline next to it. Classic.
“You won’t believe what happened,” I say, plopping on the couch. It creaks from my weight, but despite its wear and age, it’s pretty comfortable.
Naomi glances my way, narrowing her eyes in an evaluating manner. They roam me from head to toe, lingering on my mouth where I’m pretty sure I fail to conceal an amused smirk.
“Did you get laid? Not to ick your yum, but necrophilia ain’t really my thing.”
I snort, throwing one of the cushions at her. “Asshole.”
“Only sometimes,” she chuckles. Angling her body toward me as the woman on the screen gets hypnotized by a two-meter gray alien, she crosses her legs under her and gives me an expectant look. “Ok, so what happened?”
I tell her about my near-death experience and Chai saving me. I omit the part about my past and the residency permit for now, feeling a little bad about it. I realize I don’t want to keep it from her, but I’m also not ready to share just yet.
“So, let me guess. You took the job then?” she puts forth, hugging the cushion now in her possession.
“Yeah,” I confess. She frowns at that.I hope she won’t scold me.I’m not entirely sure if it was the right decision, and she also doesn’t have the full picture yet, but I guess it would be nice if she didn’t think I was a complete idiot for agreeing to work for a mafia group. “I want to give it a go. Plus… Chai isn’t so bad or, you know, scary. He was pretty normal once we sat down and talked properly.”
I also had the best orgasm in a while jerking off to images of him naked and touching his dick.
Naomi hums, pursing her full lips while I contemplate whether to share that last bit with her. “Honestly, I don’t know you enough to tell if you are a good judge of character or not, but… If you are sure. Just be careful and, like, don’t get sucked into shit that might get you in trouble.”
Yeah, well, I’ve no idea if I’ll be able to do that. I officially start tonight, and my first task is accompanying Chai to some venue to sign a contract. He mentioned introductions to the Group too, but those aren’t until Monday. Nerves twist my stomach just thinking about meeting a realactualmafia boss. I hope everything goes well.
“I’ll do my best,” I chirp enthusiastically and cross my hands behind my head.
“Oh boy, why is this only making me worry about your wellbeing even more?”
“My wellbeing or my sanity?”
We look at each other, the snort dying to make it out of me. Her eyes gleam knowingly as her lips quirk up.
“Both?” we say in unison, laughing.
“You are such a dumbass, Leo. I pity your employer already. They are in for a rude awakening.”
“I think you are mistaking my irresistible charm and unmatched wit for idiocy. It’s not the same,” I point out, keeping my voice as serious as I can.
“Uh-huh, totally not the same.” She smacks me playfully on the arm, shaking her head and trying to pull a stern expression. “So, you said you start tonight?”
“Yeah. He’s got some business in some nightclub.”
She abandons attempting to glower at me like a mother about to scold her child, and a conspiratorial butsubtle smirk plays at her lips. “Which one? Maybe I can happen to swing by? Bump into him and you. I’m sure more than half the people are going out again, so we might as well go where you will be.”
I guess they could. It’s not like it matters if we end up running into each other while I’m on the job. I think. “I can ask him where we are go—”
Oh shit.I never replied to his message.
Naomi gives me a look as I shove my hand in my pocket and take out my phone. I offer her a small smile and no explanation and open the messages app. Chai’s unread text waits for me, sent about ten minutes after the one that made me nut like crazy.
Kwanchai:I will leave you to your shower and try your advice :). Good night and sweet dreams, Leo.
Jesus. I should have replied. Did he jerk off? Or watch porn?Fuck, I want to know.
