“Storm!” Rex—Olson’s alpha—came loping over, a wide grin on his face. “You want ice cream too?”
“Yeah...” Storm glanced between Rex and Cop Alpha, wondering how the hell he was going to extricate himself from this situation.
To his surprise, Cop Alpha turned to Rex. “You know this alpha?”
Rex bumped shoulders with Storm. “Storm is good alpha. Don’t arrest.”
Cop Alpha raised an eyebrow. “Who said anything about arresting?”
Rex frowned. “I know Varrick faces. You are suspi—suspishy.”
“Suspicious.” Cop Alpha—Varrick—snorted. “Yeah. He’s stalking an omega.”
Storm’s face burned. But Rex only brightened. “Linus has bad ex,” Rex explained. “Kill ex. Give Linus pickup lines.”
Holy fuck!Storm buried his face in his hands. That was all supposed to stay in the Danger Alphas chat. Not be shared with a policeman. Fucking fuck. “Rex. Please stop. I haven’t done anything.”
“Yeah, no, you didn’t hear any of that,” said a new rumbling voice. Jag.
Storm could’ve collapsed in relief. He glanced at his other Danger Alpha Brother, who came to a stop next to them. Jag nodded at Varrick.
“I’ll vouch for Storm,” Jag said. “He’s been watching over Linus for a while now. Saved him from some alphas who wouldn’t stay away.”
Varrick eyed Jag, then Storm. “Fine. But if I hear so much as a peep from Linus, I’m arresting you.”
Storm winced. Then a thought struck him. “Actually, could you look into an alpha?” Storm peeked over Varrick’s shoulder to make sure Linus was far away from this conversation. “There was someone looking for Linus near his place, but I got some major bad vibes from him. I can give you his license plate number.”
Varrick gave him another long look. “Fine.”
Storm pulled out his phone and showed Varrick a picture of the alpha’s truck. Varrick took down the details on his own phone.
“A caveat,” Varrick said. “Just because we’re looking into it, doesn’t mean we’re keeping tabs on him at every moment. We can only arrest him if he’s done something wrong.”
Storm nodded. “Yeah, that’s where I come in. I’m trying to head him offbeforehe fucks someone over. He’s already done too much. Linus has nightmares too often.”
The other alphas narrowed their eyes.
Varrick gave Storm a begrudging nod. “Don’t fuck up, kid.”
“I’m not a kid,” Storm grumbled. But he gave a two-fingered salute. “All I want is to protect my omega.”
Varrick nodded again. Then he turned, and Emmy crashed into him like an overeager limpet.
“Banana muffin! I want to give everyone in the ice cream shop a pickup line. Do you have paper?”
Varrick sighed fondly and dug around in his pockets, producing a pen and notepad.
Emmy almost glowed; he was smiling so brightly. He gave Varrick a loud kiss and bounced away.
Storm would never know how someone like Emmy managed to get bonded to such an uptight alpha.
Then again... Wasn’t Emmy the omega who had secretly lived in Varrick’s attic? Things seemed to have worked out forthem.
“You sticking around?” Jag asked, pulling Storm out of his thoughts.
“I’m heading back to my parents’ place; they’re watching our kid,” Varrick replied, nodding at them. “I just stopped by to drop Emmy off. Catch you later.” He trailed after Emmy, leaving Storm with Jag and Rex.
“What was that about?” Jag asked dryly.
