Nat shrugged. “I don’t think it’s any of your business.”

Kylie’s expression turned uglier. She stalked forward. “Roles in this company are supposed to betransparent—”

“If you don’t know about my role, then I don’t think Duke meant for you to know.”

Kylie’s face turned purple.

Nat inched toward the playpen. If he called Hubrie... Was there enough time for the butler to get back here? This didn’t seem important enough to interrupt Duke’s meeting.

Wanda made a sound behind him. When he turned slightly, he found her with her eyes glowing white.

Kylie was looking at her too, her face twisted in disgust. “Ugh, a mixed breed.”

Fuck.Nat’s heart stuttered. No one was supposed to know that; it was the entire reason why he and Wanda had been kidnapped in the first place.

Kylie’s expression turned calculating. Then she backed away with a sneer. “You won’t be here long. Mr. Brimstone will realize that I’m so much more qualified for the job. He’ll treat me better than awhore.”

She stormed into an elevator and hit the buttons. Nat could only watch as the mirrored doors closed and took her away.

His stomach felt like a lead weight.

“She won’t tell anyone, right?” Nat whispered, scooping Wanda into his arms.

Wanda drooled and grabbed his nose, kicking like nothing was wrong in the world.

Nat brought her back to the desk and kept her on his lap the entire time, his heart pattering nervously.

He wasn’t sure he felt safe anymore.

A TERRIBLE TEAM

Kylie stabbedher fork into her pasta, trying to come up with more ways to get rid of Mr. Brimstone’s unworthy assistant.

She already had a few ideas, but she wanted one that was guaranteed to succeed.

Then again, Nat had to be slacking on the job—he probably spent more time on his mutt baby than on his actual work.

Her face twisted into an ugly scowl. “I’m a better mate for Mr. Brimstone,” she hissed. “He’s just using that fat thing as a fucktoy.”

Someone stepped into the small cafe she was sitting in. It was a cruel-looking man—an alpha, going by his broad shoulders and muscled body—that Kylie was immediately wary of.

The man barked an order at the barista. He stomped around and scowled at anyone who got in his way, his body tensed as though he was on the verge of punching someone.

Kylie would’ve watched him more, except Mr. Brimstone chose that moment to step out of the Brimstone Industries building.

Nat was walking close to Mr. Brimstone like he was trying to suck up to him.

Kylie hissed. Nearby, the angry alpha growled.

When Kylie glanced up, she found the man watching Mr. Brimstone and his assistant, his teeth bared.

“Who does Nat think he’s with? the alpha muttered. “Cheating little fucker.”

Kylie blinked. “You know that omega?”

The man’s attention snapped onto her. “He’s mine,” he seethed. “Fucking ran away from me.”
