He was hurrying toward Shelby’s desk when he almost crashed into someoneagain.

“You,” Kylie spat, reeling back.

Nat flinched. “Sorry. I wasn’t looking closely. I’ll do better.”

Kylie was wearing another flashy dress today. She looked Nat up and down, sneering. “I don’t see why Mr. Brimstone would hire you.”

Then she sniffed, and her eyes grew wide.

Nat had completely forgotten that some people could smell everything you didn’t want them to.

And that Duke’s scent—and the scent ofhis cum—had probably rubbed onto every inch of his skin.

Kylie stared at him even more venomously than yesterday. “You seduced him,” she hissed. “You slipped him a love potion!”

“What? Why would I?”

“Because he wouldn’t wantyou. You’re missing fingers. You’re fat!”

Nat gaped. Yeah, he knew he didn’t look like the people in movies and magazines. But Duke had also just come inside him twice, without even pulling out, and he’d touched Nat a lot. Voluntarily. He’d bought Nat several tailored outfits. He’d slept with Natin his arms.

Before Duke, Nat hadn’t even thought that someonegoodcould accept him this completely.

“I didn’t,” Nat said. “I don’t even have money for a love potion.”

“So you’re after him for his money,” Kylie sneered.

“He knows I want money. I told him that during the interview.”

Kylie looked horrified. And disgusted.

Nat shrugged. “That’s literally the truth.” But people were starting to look over, and Nat doubted that Duke wanted everyone knowing the details of their contract. He slowly backed away. “Uh, I have to deliver this to Shelby.”

Kylie snatched the folder out of his hands, stalking away. “Just you wait,” she snarled over her shoulder. “He’ll see what a faker you are.”

Nat fought down the unease spreading through his stomach.

Kylie wouldn’t go upstairs, right? She wouldn’t try to threaten Wanda, right?

He crept down the next aisle and followed her, watching as she slapped the folder onto Shelby’s desk. Shelby startled and scowled. Then they began arguing.

Nat hurried away before they could spot him.

He was safe with Duke upstairs. If anything bad happened, Duke would believe Nat over Kylie, right? Even though Nat had only been with the company for two days?

Nat wasn’t completely sure. He returned to his desk and scooped Wanda into his arms, feeling a little better when she babbled at him.

A REVELATION

Hubrie steppedinto the office and shut the door, leaning back against it.

It was so different from his usual exaggerated behavior that Duke looked up. “What is it?”

“There was a lie in there. What Nat told you.” Hubrie looked unusually serious.

Uncertainty slid into Duke’s gut. “When?”
