“Ask about my age,” I repeated softer, still running my fingers through her velvety hair as if that was the last time I would be able to touch it.

“Luke.” Her eyes dropped to our hands still locked against my heart.

“I’m thirty-two,” I said in a rush. The tension was too much. I had to know if I was going to scream into my pillow tonight.

Haylee sat frozen for a moment, before she sagged and exhaled another puff of herbal warmth. Her fingers gripped my shirt.

I couldn’t read her reaction. Didn’t know what it meant. “Red Cheeks?”

“Seven years.” She blushed. “What are the chances?”

I ran the numbers in my head real quick and allowed myself to relax. “You don’t have to wait seven years for me, Gorgeous. I’m here now.”

Happiest with you

IDON’T KNOW HOW?I got from hoping Luke wouldn’t question my letter to wishing he would never let me go, but as he smiled down at me, I wanted nothing more than to stay wrapped in his embrace. The world disappeared. My worries disappeared. There was only Luke, his admissions, and the warmth of his palm against my cheek as he stared straight into my soul.

“Anyone who says you’re not worth the drama is a fool,” he said with such conviction I almost believed him.

“Did you just call me a fool?”

Luke’s eyebrow raised. “You will be educated accordingly when I show you that you’re worth it, Gorgeous.”

I snorted. “Educated and all?”

“You bet.”

I sucked in my lower lip when a smile brightened his face. He was callingmegorgeous? I was looking okay today, but that was the extent of it. Just okay. Luke, on the other hand, was hot every single time I saw him. And he saw something in me, something he wanted. I would be a fool if I kept pushing him away. An unbelievable fool. But then again, he promised to educate me.

“What do you say, Red Cheeks? Are we going to try this?”

My stomach swirled with butterflies, and I still gripped his shirt right where his heart beat almost as fast as mine. I couldn’t help my lips spreading into a tentative smile as I nodded.

“Thank God.” Luke pulled me into a tight hug that left me breathless.

His face found the nook of my neck again, and hot breath tickled the delicate skin there. The man knew how to hug. I’m sure he also knew how to kiss. Judging by the soft brush of his lips earlier and the tingles it had elicited, I was going to be in big trouble when he decided hugging wasn’t quite enough.
