“Aye. I do.”

“Then say, ‘I’m your mate until I change my mind’.”

Her face lit with a smile that put the sun to shame. “By the way, thank you for comin’ for me. ‘Twas very romantic. You did battle with a large and scary fiend. For me. No’ every elfess has such a tale to tell.” She got on tiptoes and gave him a peck on the cheek. “Till I change my mind is a promise I will make ye, demon. But I want a proper weddin’ with my family present. In Black On Tarry.”

Lyric squinted. “Right away?”

She laughed. “How soon is right away?”

CHAPTER NINETEENIn My Life

Black On Tarry

“They do no’ know you’re a demon. “They do no’ know Sher and I are demons either. So do no’ say anythin’ questionable. Remember, they’re livin’ in a world of the past. That means they know how to pay attention and how to listen.Reallylisten.”

“I know how toreallylisten, too,” Lyric said.

“Hmmm. Well, seems to me that sometimes you’re more akin to human males in that way.”

“What?”

“Never mind. ‘Twill be a fine celebration the likes the village has ne’er seen. Every little girl’s dream.”

“And you are the most beautiful bride in all the worlds.”

She curtsied. “Thank you.”

“And the only one who can throw lightning.”

“Shhhh.” She put her fingers to his mouth.

Litha had followed up with Rosie about the outcome of Lyric’s search. A couple of weeks later Lyric and Shivaun were arrived at the villa. They’d been invited to tell their story to Storm, Litha, Ram and Elora over dinner.

It was a gathering of people not easily impressed by tales, but every one of them was captivated.

Shivaun took a sip of fine Black Swan red and said, “A story is only as good as its moral. So who can tell me the moral of this story?”

The diners looked at each other.

“What is it?” Elora asked.

“That in all the worlds there’s no’ a thing as powerful as music.” Shivaun beamed at Lyric like he was the reason the sun rises in the morning.

Ram turned to Elora and said, “Buggers and Paddymash. I want to go to 1967.”
