Page 67 of Mate to the Alpha Of All Alphas

"Are you sure she did not...notice my absence?" Wolfaraine directed to Alphose at last.

In order words, was Alphose truly sure she did not go berserk in all the duration he spent in the human world?

Alphose nodded his head, "No, she did not. I also asked all the sentinels that guarded the tower while you were away to be sure. She did not create any fuss at all."

If Alphose's tone held any confusion, it was nothing compared to the face of the Alpha King and Degar. It was just too hard to believe. The white wolf goes crazy whenever he goes away from Naturiah for days. He's been out of Naturiah for two weeks.

Wolfaraine watched her sleep. As confusing and baffling as it was, it also gave him relief too.

"Why are you inhaling deeply, Alphose? This is the fourth time in ten seconds I've heard you do that." Wolfaraine threw him a glance, "Do you smell anything unusual?"

Alphose did smell something unusual. The scent of the Alpha King is in this room. It was very faint he wouldn't have picked it up if he wasn't a cougar Alpha.

And, he was almost sure it's not because he just walked through it moments ago, because he'd caught that scent the first time they walked through that door.

What's going on? Wolfaraine had been out for two weeks, his scent should have faded from this place a few days after he left, so, why was his scent here? Unless, Ismena.

No, that can't be true, he thought disbelievingly.

"Alphose?"

The Alpha King's voice brought him back. He shook his head and replied, "No, nothing is wrong."

There's no way Ismena would have been here because she must know how much Nalaila hated humans and they would have heard the white female wolf's rage if a human had invaded its space.

Also, if she did come here, the Alpha King will be the first to scent her presence when they entered this room.

Maybe he'd been wrong after all, Alphose concluded.

"When was the last time she ate?" Wolfaraine asked.

"Two days ago. She has been asleep since then." Alphose responded.

"Tell the cook to get her food prepared tomorrow. If she isn't awake, they should wake her up and feed her. She should not be allowed to keep going so long without food."

"Yes, Alpha King, I will do just that."

As they locked up and walked away, Alphose wondered if he should tell Wolfaraine about Kassandra now?

But, one look at the slight limp the Alpha King walked with stopped him from doing so. That, and his wariness to tell him about his journey to the human world with his mate.

No, he'll tell him everything tomorrow.

Wolfaraine opened the door of his bedroom and walked through it. His chest was heavy as if a metallic rock was logged there after his visit to Nalaila's room and his left leg was starting to throb.

Her scent was everywhere in this room but she was nowhere within sight. At first, he'd thought she wasn't in his bedroom but then, he heard the shower running.

He felt calmer all of a sudden and the wolf spread out languidly inside him, growling in sheer pleasure. He felt better.

Then, he stiffened at the unexpected reaction to her presence. It irked because he should not be reacting to her like that.

Control yourself, Wolfaraine. You both agreed that it’s just gonna be sex. Do not forget that you also have to let her go after the Ring is found and brought back to Naturiah. You do not want a mate. You cannot afford to have a child. Do not forget.

Walking further into the spacious room, he began removing his evening clothes.

Meanwhile, in the bathroom, Ismena allowed water to cascade down her back. It's surprising how she loves the showerhead in his bathroom more than the ones she was used to in the human world. It might be not be modern, but the gold-colored showerhead screamed old-fashioned and expensive, just like every other thing in his bedroom.

She'd tried to sleep, but her body was just too hot for it to allow her any sleep. So, she'd figured a shower would help. She'd set the water for cold too.
