It featured a sleeping Komodo dragon.

Loki gulped. “Is—is that him?!”

Eden frowned. “Woody?”

Her staff spoke in her head.It is not the big one.

She looked around the enclosure, puzzled. “He says it’s not the Komodo.”

“There’s nothing else in there,” Kes said skeptically.

A flicker of movement drew Eden’s eyes. Something had shifted under a cluster of twigs and leaves at her feet. She squinted. There was a creature hiding under the greenery.

Eden crouched and tapped the glass. Eerie stillness gripped the clump of branches and foliage.

“What is it?” Kes asked.

“There’s something there.”

Gold flashed around Kes’s glasses. A gust of unearthly wind blew inside the enclosure. It swept away the twigs and leaves.

Eden stared.

An adorable, four-inch-long, pink-hued Texas horned lizard was hugging the ground, eyes squeezed shut and claws over his head.

“Wait. Is that—?!”

Yes, Woody stated smugly. That is the dragon.

Brightness shimmered over Loki’s belly. His jaw dropped open. His gaze locked on the lizard as he registered whatever he’d just sensed from the Eternity Key.

“La—Ladon?!”

The lizard lifted his head and blinked up at them. His pupils flared with recognition.

“Fuck!” he hissed.

Horror rounded Kes’s eyes. “What—what happened to you?!”

“He’s so cute,” Eden mumbled.

Loki made a face. “He has zero presence.”

The lizard froze. He puffed up his body, clearly incensed by the imp’s words. “Oh yeah, ugly?! I’ll give you presssence!”

He flipped a claw at Loki.

“That’s Ladon alright,” Kes affirmed dully while the imp and the lizard traded glares.

Motion at the other end of the enclosure captured Eden’s gaze. The Komodo dragon had opened a lazy eye.

“Uh-oh.”

The Komodo dragon lifted its enormous head, yawned, and slowly waddled over.

Ladon followed her worried stare.

“Don’t mind Kujo. He’s a big sssoftie,” he said dismissively. “Hey, Kujo. Could you back off? I’m having a chat with some old friendsss. Kujo?”
