Things weren’t good in our home, and I wasn’t blind to it. Since our last argument, Lucky wasn’t sleeping with me or even really talking to me unless he was trying to figure out what we were eating or asking about Kani. It was starting to bother me, and I was trying to be a better woman. Granted, I treated him like shit and now I was trying to fix it. Pregnant and all, I made sure the house was in order. When he left the house and came back, his dinner was cooked and Kani was taken care of so all he had to do was relax. His ass still didn’t acknowledge it.

About two weeks ago, he started coming in late. As a woman, I knew what the fuck that meant but I didn’t want to acceptit. I thought Lucky would wait on me forever but someone or something was occupying his damn time. It wasn’t me. When he would walk in the house, he would shower and play with Kani. He stopped eating my food and stopped having a conversation altogether. Today was no different. He left the house around lunchtime and didn’t even tell me he was leaving. While he was sleep last night, I snuck into his room and shared his location with me. I wasn’t about to just give him to the next bitch.

I pulled up to Merci’s place. Perc had bought them a new place that was big enough just for them. She was so used to being in her condo that she wasn’t into the big ass houses. She had truly changed within the month of being home. I loved the maturity level she was showing but I could still tell that she was bothered and that was going to take some time to get over if she ever did. I even recommended she go to counseling to talk to someone, but she refused.

“I just need you to watch him for a few hours,” I explained to her as I laid him on the sofa.

“Is everything okay?” She stared at me strangely.

“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s something I need to do, and I can’t do it with him.”

“Sis, what’s going on?” She probed.

“Nothing. What makes you think something going on?”

“Lucky been with Perc for weeks now and I know how attached he is to you.”

“We’re good.”

“You sure?”

“Merci, please stop worrying about me and look after your nephew. He has two more teeth cutting and he’s trying to stand up on his own so watch him when he pulls up on stuff. He hit his head yesterday and I had to explain the bump to Lucky. I don’t feel like going through that again.”

“I got him.”

“Thank you. I’ll be back.”

I jumped back in my car and pulled up his location. He was about thirty minutes away. Traffic was clear so I was able to flow without anything slowing me down. I ended up pulling up to a nice ass house. It was probably one of many of his properties. We weren’t even married long enough for me to know everything he owned. He would tell me the only way to stay rich was to buy up land and properties just like our oppressors. At the time I didn’t understand it because all I cared about was my shop, but now I realized that Lucky rarely had to leave the house, but he constantly had money coming in when we were together.

Shutting my car off, I took in a quick deep breath before stepping out and walking up to the door. I stood in front of the door and balled my fist up to knock on the door. Lucky’s Mercedes was parked in the driveway next to a BMW. Still, at this moment I hadn’t knocked. Never had I ever been insecure but at this moment I was losing myself. I wanted to turn around, grab my son and go home. I hadn’t come all this way just to turn around though. I had to fucking know who I was up against and why he was treating me so cold. Raising my fist again, I knocked on the door three times and stepped back.

The door popped open with a set of eyeballs staring back at me. The child looked to be about eight or nine. It was like looking at my son Kani at this age. My chest was tight as fuck as he smiled with his missing teeth. He was handsome but my mind wasn’t thinking correctly to even greet him. My heart was aching with just the thought of what the fuck was before. Then a woman’s voice came echoing through the house followed by Lucky’s voice. All four of us stood to the door staring at each other. I had a lot of shit going through my head but the hood me told me to grab the bitch, so I reached over her son and yanked her hair.

“Let her shit go,” Lucky demanded. I held on tighter trying to pull her out of the house as her son screamed. “Let her shit the fuck go before I chop yo ass in the back of the neck,” Lucky warned.

I released and fought the tears that were trying to come out of my eyes. Lucky pushed them out of the way and walked out on the porch, making sure to close the door behind him. I looked down at his feet and noticed he was barefoot. This nigga was comfortable being here and I had no idea how I was able to stand here and not go the fuck off on him.

“Bless,” he started but I slapped the fuck out of him.

“Don’t fuckin’ say shit to me. Here I am trying to get things right between us. I see now you got a whole fucking family that you refused to tell me about. You some bullshit and I hope you can look at our kids and tell them you fucked this up. I didn’t do this, you did. True, I was a bitch, but I never did anything to hurt you. You fucked up my whole friendship up with a nigga because you were jealous and now looka here. You got a damn family. He looks just like my fuckin’ son.”

“Can I talk now?” Lucky asked.

“No!” He reached out to grab me, but I jumped back and started towards my car. He threw me over his shoulder and carried me to my car. He placed me down and pressed his body against mine so I couldn’t move. “Can you please get the fuck off of me.”

“Listen, goddamn. That’s why the fuck we can’t get back to where we were. You come in with these bullshit ass assumptions of what’s going on and don’t let a nigga speak on shit.”

“Why I had to find out like this? You couldn’t tell me about this shit at home? We live together, Lucky.”

“Do we? I don’t know what the fuck we doing. You been giving a nigga grief for some time now. Did you think I was justgoing to sit around and wait for you to get yo shit together? I’ve tried everything to make you happy.”

“So, I guess this is where you run to when you sick of me and Kani.”

He ran his hand over his face, “I’m not sick of you and Kani. I said I was sick of yo shit. Which means all the fuckin’ arguing done got old to me. I just found out ‘bout my son. I dated his mama in high school, and I had no fuckin’ idea ‘bout him. Ain’t shit between me and her. She’s married and her husband will be pulling up anytime now if you wanna meet the nigga. I planned on talking to you ‘bout it but we weren’t talking and I didn’t know if we were on that level with each other to even mention it. He knows ‘bout you and Kani. His mother and husband do as well. Don’t ever come at me with no sucka shit ‘cause I handle my business.”

Once again, I was left to feel like a fool. I should’ve turned my black ass around and went back home. Again, Lucky was right, and I was wrong. He was probably for sure done with me.

“Take yo ass home and I’ll be there when I finish teaching him his move for karate.”
