“You’re terrible at this,” he joked.
The actual fuck?! The aquarium had scent neutralizers, and everything smelled of fish, water, and seaweed that I hadn’t even noticed. Autumn was still a child, so it was natural that her scent was still lightly floral, and I thought I had been scenting her. Aidyn had been talking about having a second child and I told him whenever he was ready. I hadn’t anticipated him to mean this soon. Excitement built in my chest but was immediately swallowed by panic and fear.
“Hey, hey!” Aidyn immediately moved to my side, pulling me into the corner with dishes and Christmas ornaments that no one looked at this time of year. “I thought you would be happy.”
“I am, I want to be. But Aidyn. I almost lost you last time!”
“I know,” A low purr rumbled through him as he pushed calm through our bond. “I know. What happened with Autumn is rare, and there is no guarantee it’ll happen again. I’m healthy, and I’ll be okay. I called Ryan yesterday and booked an appointment, but he said there is no reason to believe we’ll repeat what happened last time, and he’s agreed to monitor my final months more carefully. Hell, I told him he could stay in our guest house the final months of my pregnancy.”
“Did you really?” I asked, unable to stop my smile.
“I did. He said, and I quote, ‘If that’s what it takes to ease your big, scary, and protective Alpha’s fears, I’ll be the biggest pain in your side until this pup is born.’”
I couldn’t help but laugh, pulling Aidyn closer to me. I pressed our foreheads together, his purr rumbling over me as I took in the news.
“A pup.”
“A pup.” Aidyn echoed.
The End.
