“I sent your schedule last night. But I gave you a couple of days to recoup.”

“Last night?”

He grins. “Yeah. I knew you’d pass.”

We do a bro shake before he walks off, giving Graham a high five as he passes.

He stops in front of me and puts his hands on his hips. “Glad that’s over with.”

I snort. “Me, too.”

I’ll save the part about finding it exhilarating to push myself to the edge. He might think I’m bragging, which may be true. It’s been a long road, and I intend to revel in this moment.

“You and Hannah…” He sniffs, darting his eyes around, but won’t look directly at me, which I find concerning.

Did he change his mind about me dating his sister? As much as I don’t want to lose his friendship, it’s way too late to put that genie back in the bottle.

“Yeah? What about us?” I finish drying off and wrap the towel around my waist.

He bobs his head as if he’s trying to bring the words up. “You’re good together.”

My grin widens as far as it can go. “Thanks, man.”

He nods. “Just ease up on the PDAs, okay? At least when I’m around.”

I try to hide my humor behind my fist. “Still not used to it, are you?”

“No.” He grimaces, then he holds his hand out for a bro shake. “But I'll get there.”

When Hannah returns with my ice pack, she frowns as she watches Graham join Zane and the other two guys who tested today, one new and one a recert like me. “What was that all about?”

I smile and shrug. “Your brother isn’t a fan of our PDAs.”

She rolls her eyes. “Why doesn’t that surprise me?”

“But he did say we’re good together.”

Her expression softens. “Fine. I’ll try to control myself better when he’s around.”

I lower my voice so only she can hear. “I didn’t say I had a problem with it.”

A mischievous gleam fills her eyes after she glances at her brother. I’m expecting her to kiss me right in front of him, butinstead, she hoists the ice pack onto my shoulder. “I think you need a little cool down.”

I suck in air through my teeth. “Wow, you McCarthys play dirty.”

She gives me an evil grin. “Yeah, and don’t you forget it.”

Donning my own mischievous grin, I lift my hands to hold her shoulders. She’s already half-soaked. Might as well help get the rest of her wet.

“Trust me, I won’t.”

Hannah darts a glance over her shoulder to the pool right behind her. Her self-satisfied expression slips. “You wouldn’t dare.”

And yet I do.
