Page 25 of Generation Omega: Revealed

“I’ll drink to that, but I plan to drink to all of this when I get home.” She backs out of the parking space and we slowly wind around the levels of the garage until we reach the checkpoint blocking the street.

“Sheesh,” Kip mutters, but the cop simply waves us through and we inch down the packed street until we reach another checkpoint just before the intersection. They’ve locked down an entire block around the hotel.

The cop manning the barrier shouts to another and gestures for Kip to continue until we’re finally beyond the net meant to capture Tillie.

“What will they say?” Tillie asks from the backseat in a voice that’s painfully fragile. “To justify all of this, I mean.”

Kip grips the steering wheel like it’s a stress ball. “Bomb scare, terrorist threat, evil gamersswattingeach other, or some malignant jerk getting revenge on his omega-loving ex-girlfriend. Better yet, they’ll say someone inside the omegaverse movement is dangerous and had to be brought down to save all the vulnerable cult members. Basically, they’ll say what they always say when they ignore the laws the rest of us are expected to follow, and people will believe them because that’s easier than facing the truth.”

While stopped at a red light, she meets Tillie’s reflection in the rearview mirror. “I’m terrified for you, but I can’t make myself wish that you didn’t reveal. I don’t want to roll back time and have the world be what I thought it was right before the professor’s speech.”

The light changes and we slowly move with traffic farther from where we don’t want to be.

Tillie sighs. “I hope the professor’s okay. If they need to blame someone for all of this, he’s wearing the biggest target.”

“Yeah, and Sage too, but that woman is fierce and has more money than god. She didn’t walk into that hotel without one hell of an exit strategy. Remember, she knew this was coming. She knew what Dr. Wellington was going to say. She knows someone revealed and she knows exactly what the authorities will do about it.”

Tillie leans back, resting her head on the headrest. “How does she know? She’s definitely got the money to pay investigators and maybe she even funded the professor’s research. But why does she care? She’s risking a lot. All her power and money aren’t worth much if they kill her.”

Kip’s eyes remain on the road as she murmurs, “Do you really want to know? It’s not a happy story.”

“If I’m going to survive, I need to know everything.”

Kip sends a warning glance to me for some reason and then speaks one word, a name. “Sarah.”

I watch as the name registers on Tillie’s face, inspiring a wince. “Sarah, the missing omega, is Sage’ssister?”

“Yes. It’s not common knowledge. I didn’t put it together at first, but I knew she had a missing sister and then that picture was just so familiar. Sage knows all of this because it happened to her little sister. The professor said Sarah revealed five years ago, and that’s when billionaire Sage McGee became obsessed with the omegaverse. It makes sense now, doesn’t it? She’s doing all of this to find her sister, save her sister, or even just to save the next omega.”

Tillie’s consumed in her thoughts when Kip says, “Tell me how I can help you.”

I watch Tillie as she considers. Her thoughts are dark and her body trembles, while uncertainty and resolve crash into each other like bumper cars. It hits me that I’m witnessing an omega revealing, taking the first steps toward becoming who she’s meant to be. How long did Sarah get before they caught or killed her? Did she even understand what was happening to her or meet her alphas?

My rage just keeps spiking higher, burning so hot that I should be able to melt our enemies. Tillie will have the time Sarah didn’t get. She will find her alphas. She will change the world. There is nothing I won’t do—no one I won’t kill—to keep her safe and give her the life she deserves.

“Easy there,” Tillie whispers to me. “Wait until we have someone to fight before you flip out like the ginormous, muscle-bound green guy you love so much.”

Kip laughs. “We have the omegaverse and they have superheroes—it’s fair. Now, tell me what you need.”

“Pull into that parking lot.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s time for me to find my alpha.”

CHAPTER14

TILLIE

My alpha… those two words feel like a hug. Everything will be better when I find him. I won’t feel like I’m being torn apart once he’s with me.

“He’s not in the grocery store, is he?” Kip squeaks, while taking us into the large parking lot.

“No. Just stop anywhere. We need to do this alone. You’ve done enough.”

The intensity of her instant displeasure is impressive, but she waits until the car is stopped to spin around and aim her pout at me. “I want to help.”

“You did help. You got us out of there.” I unfasten the latch on my seatbelt. “This next part is… I don’t want you involved any more than you already are.”
