Page 100 of Generation Omega: Revealed

Sage lowers her hands and studies my expression that I’m quite certain reveals nothing. “What does that mean?”

Saying it aloud will change me forever, sparking consequences I can’t fathom, but I can’t look into the eyes of this woman who’s known such grief and deny her the truth. “It means I’m going to discover what befell Sarah and Kai and all the others, and when I’m certain I know everything, I’m going to kill him.”

Her voice is haunted as she demands, “You’re going to kill your omega’s alpha?”

I stare out the window, seeing the first hints of sunset in the distance. “I’ve been trying to understand since I was elevated to an alpha—why the legacy would choose me. And this is it. I know the history. I know how things are supposed to be. I’m here to establish the balance that will be needed to counteract these rogue pack members, even eliminating them when necessary.”

It all seems so sensible when I can’t feel her or hear the legacy’s guidance. “The legacy required the assassin, so it turned him into her trained attack dog, without the will to turn on its mistress. I understand that, but he—and the beta—should never be near the queen. It’s an abomination that I will correct at the right time.”

“Do you ever wonder if we’ve been on the wrong side of this all along?” Sage whispers.

“Never before… not until today.”

“I didn’t see this coming.” She says that like it’s a failing on her part.

“You couldn’t have known—no one could.”

“I don’t trust myself to say anything right now—I want him dead—but you need to understand that if you do this, it might mean that you’re more of an enemy to the omegaverse than Kazimir Volkov ever was. We don’t know what the death of an alpha does to an omega, and Tillie is innocent here, just like Sarah was. You have to wait. You can’t act rashly about this. And I’m not just worried about Tillie. If you do this, threaten the pack, Gideon Blake will kill you. He’s already killed, and I’m not ready to lose you, Thatcher.”

Sage steps closer, as though she wants to hug me but knows better than to get burned again. “Just give it some time. I appreciate you telling me. I’m going to let Dorian know. This is a warning he needs to hear in person. I promise, his reaction will be less civilized than mine.”

I know she hasn’t begun to react to the news and needs to be away from me, not wanting to make my life harder or influence my decisions.

“I’ll check in later,” she says, already moving out of the kitchen.

I watch her leave and then return to the table, righting her fallen chair and sitting with a view of the fading sunlight.

Where are the instincts?

What am I supposed to do?

How can I possibly move forward with a killer in the pack?

Why was I chosen?

Was it to kill Kazimir?

I keep asking until the instincts finally respond, though not answering any of my questions.

Surrender to love.

I was hoping forkill Kazimirand, instead, I get a damn greeting card.

As punctuation on that little platitude, my cock stirs and springs to attention with no instigation on my part. The legacy clearly has a sick sense of humor, leaving me to wallow in my current state, an alpha who’s all dressed up with nowhere to go.

CHAPTER45

TILLIE

Gideon’s gaze transforms in an instant, his sweetness overtaken by the spark of something wild and eternal—a force that will not be denied, certainly never tamed.

An alpha.

What I don’t expect is the challenge in Gideon’s eyes as his power expands around us. His intensity fills the room, his scent deepening, growing richer and more potent as I breathe him in and taste him on my lips.

His purr is rougher and more demanding. He’s not trying to soothe me now—he’s not even communicating withme. This alpha is summoninghisomega, and the omega in me cautiously seeks permission to emerge.

My inner omega doesn’t want to be sent to the penalty box again, which proves I did my work well. I get to choose, at least for now, whether to engage with my alpha as myself, the president of the Gideon Blake fan club, or an omega.
