Angus may not know it but him letting me, no, wanting me to show him what I want, letting me control how I take just that, is fueling a power I can’t remember feeling in a long time, if ever.

We've been hiding from each other for a lifetime. It’s dark, but there’s no hiding from one another now.

Not anymore.

Knowing this is my one chance to explore him, I might as well make all my naughty dreams about Angus McKinnon come true while I can. My fingers explore down his neck, where the pounding of his heart thrums beneath my touch. Lowering my mouth, I follow the trail left behind by my fingers, and his heartbeat against my lips. They trail his tattooed sternum, while my hand takes its time caressing his pecs and the rigid lines of his abdomen until I reach the muscles that form the V disappearing into his waistband.

“You’re beautiful,” I say. My breathing picks up its pace when I wrap my fingers around his thick length, but the denim of his jeans is a barrier that simply must go.

My fingers work the metal on his belt buckle and with newfound confidence, I pull the belt from his pants. The sound of it hitting the floor sends a shiver down my spine.

“You're freezing. Let’s grab a blanket and move to the chair.”

He’s mistaken my shiver of excitement to mean I’m cold, but when he pulls me into his arms and sets me on the ground, how can I protest?

He steps away to get the blanket, and I miss him immediately. He pulls a Pendleton throw off a rack madeespecially to hold the beautiful wool blankets but when he reaches for the lamp, my confidence retreats.

Panic sets in.

Chapter Seventeen

Angus

“Please don’t.”

Mia’s voice is barely above a whisper. Gone is the confident woman who was just exploring my body with her hands and lips. It hurts my heart to think she doubts I would find her anything but perfect with the lights on or off.

But if leaving the light off brings back her confidence, then, by God, the light stays off. Besides, the glow from the gas fireplace gives me all the light I need.

“Whatever you want, Mia.”

She takes the blanket out of my hands, opens it and spreads it over what I’m sure is an ice-cold leather chair.

“Just once and it stays between the two of us, right?” she asks again.

“Right.”

It’s not the answer I want to give her, but I agree, because the realistic part of me knows tonight is all we can have.

What I want to tell her is that she’s mine. That I want to be the last man who ever gets this with her. But the needy look in Mia’s eyes as they roam over my body is quite the distraction and the words never leave my mouth.

“Condom?”

“Right here,” I assure her, sliding one from my wallet. She takes it out of my hand and slips it into my front pocket.

“Boots.”

Without hesitation, her wish is my command, and I toe off my boots faster than ever before.

Closing the space between us, she drags a finger over my abs and then hooks it behind the button of my jeans and leads me to the chair. The clicking of her heels against the hardwood floor the only sound.

She places me in front of the chair facing her. “You said whatever I wanted.”

“Anything, Mia. When it comes to me, you can have anything.”

Her shoulders are back, her gaze heated. Biting her lip between her teeth, she leisurely tugs down my zipper, as if we have all the time in the world. Then she stops and takes a step away from me.

My pulse quickens, but the way her smile forces her lip free from her teeth, I know she’s not changing her mind... she’s got an idea.
