The younger Keeper returned and gave me two white tablets.

"Thank you," I murmured.

I felt the prickle of my hair stand up just as Travis arrived. He was a harbinger of evil that tipped off my keener senses. The elder blond Keeper looked at Travis with cold eyes. I frowned slightly as I watched his features harden as Travis stood beside me, his hands on his hips and legs slightly apart.

Had I imagined it? They were both Keepers, so they were technically on the same side but by just watching them I would have pegged them as enemies. It was odd.

"Harrison," Travis said.

"Travis."

The air between the two of them was filled with tension. It was like at any moment they were going to attack each other and only the strongest one would walk away alive.

They were both tall and lean with muscles despite the gray in their hair signifying their age. Harrison's hair had more gray and more lines in his face, which made me pin him as the older one between the two of them. His cool eyes held Travis' without blinking.

"Where is Flynn?" Harrison asked, eventually breaking the dangerous silence.

"Out checking on some leads." Travis cocked his head to the side.

"Send him to me when he gets back." Harrison gave me a side glance before he left, up the stairs.

Not long after him I followed, not wanting to spend more time in Travis' company.

From what I had witnessed, my gut instinct was right. The warnings to stay away from Travis had been confirmed by the unusual interaction between the two Keepers. Was it a power-struggle? Two men, with a commanding aura - it was like watching two alpha males fighting for dominance.

Like the birthmarks, super strength and dominance were only a few of the commonalities I had discovered between the Keepers and werewolves. How could we be such enemies when we seemed to be so similar?

Rubbing my forehead, I thought back to Dean. I couldn't just leave him here but I had no way to get myself out. I had no idea if it would be possible to get him out too.

The longer I stayed here the more dangerous my situation became. I still had to get out of here and now I had the added problem of getting Dean out of here as well. I couldn't fight my way out, so I needed to try and think of another way.

There had to be a way.

CHAPTER NINE

Kyle

"We found it!"

The door of my study opened with a bang and Keri stood triumphantly in the doorway.

"Where?"

I felt my heart start to hammer inside my chest. The desolate feeling of helplessness was forgotten as my blood pumped through my veins, excitement mixed with nervousness flowing through my body.

At the mention of the address, I was already formulating the quickest way to it. Keri stopped me as I tried to walk past her. Her hand on my wrist pulled me back to the present and not to my mind that was racing ahead.

"We can't just go barging in," she said.

I wanted to argue, but she was right. My emotions were already clouding my judgment.

"You have no idea what setup they may have," she added. I wanted to shrug her hold from my arm and go with my instinct to find Crystal. But Keri was right. I couldn't dispute it.

"We need to put a group together to go and check it out," she said, beginning to strategize.

"We can't waste too much time," I added, needing to emphasize the importance of doing this quickly.

"I know." Her eyes held mine.
