There was no movement in his features when Harrison compared him to us. I knew how much he hated us, so it surprised me.
"I have a question," Keri spoke up for the first time. "How do we know you're really her father?"
Harrison looked thoughtful for a moment.
"Is Claire here?" he asked Crystal. She nodded and sent a message to a pack member to bring her to the study. Did he know Claire? Would she be able to vouch for him?
We waited until there was a soft knock at the door.
"Come in, Claire," I said. She pushed the door open and looked nervously at me.
Harrison stood up and her eyes met his.
"Harrison," she whispered. Her eyes shot to Crystal, who nodded her head.
"It's been so long," she murmured, smiling as she grasped his face into her hands.
"It has," he agreed. "Thank you for taking care of my daughter."
She began to tear up. "You're welcome."
And there was the confirmation that Harrison was who he said he was.
Keri stood up and ushered Claire into her seat.
"So what happens now?" I asked.
"We carry on as before. Our group will be recalled. Flynn, Hayden and I will return to the headquarters."
It seemed too easy.
"What about Crystal's true identity?"
"The only Keepers who know are either in the alliance or dead."
It was a relief. We had managed to keep her secret from getting out.
"Is it safe to go back?" Crystal asked her father.
"It has to be done. If we don't, it will raise more suspicions and that will make them take a closer look. That cannot happen." His message was clear. If the Keepers investigated, they would find Crystal.
I rubbed my chin as I tried to think of anything else I had forgotten to cover. The day's events had drained me and it was hard to think.
"Will you be back?" Crystal asked.
Her father's eyes softened. "I hope so."
I knew it was disappointing for her but she hid it well.
"We hope to convert more Keepers to the truth but it takes time. Making a premature move could be deadly."
"How will we keep in contact?" I asked when the meeting came to an end.
"Here is a phone that I will contact you on." He handed it to me. I opened it and browsed the contacts. There was only one number. "Only call me if it's an emergency."
I nodded my head and pocketed the phone. Our meeting was finished. We left the study and made our way out of the house.
"Where's Hayden?" Crystal asked.
