Page 31 of Facing the Line
Hadley: I can’t pull off the wardrobe, so I’m out.
Hadley: Good luck at Michigan State tonight. How do you like being on the first line?
Jonas: I’d like it a lot better if Hunter hadn’t gotten injured to get me here.
Hadley: I get that. But you’re doing great.
Jonas: It’s a lot of pressure.
Hadley: And lots of girls cheering for you.
Jonas: Hey, you didn’t show up for Movie Monday tonight. What gives?
Hadley: The extended editions of Lord of the Rings? I don’t love anyone that much.
Jonas: Haha, fair point. I’m gonna miss it next year, though.
Hadley: Yeah, you have new roommates lined up?
Jonas: Maybe. Evan and I are thinking about asking Caleb and Levi.
Hadley: They seem nice.
Jonas: Caleb is pretty quiet, and Levi is wrapped up in his girl at home, but they are good guys.
Jonas: Where are you living next year?
Hadley: Ugh, too many things to figure out.
Mom: Call your father today. It’s his birthday.
Hadley: Do I have to? We left things so weird at Christmas.
Mom: He’s paying for your education, pays for your car, and your credit card. So yeah, I’d say you do.
Hadley: You don’t like talking to him, either. That’s why you’re not married anymore.
Mom: You take his money. You at least owe him a happy birthday wish.
Hadley: My mom is making me call my dad for his birthday. He pays the bills, so I shouldn’t complain but…what are the odds it will go to voicemail, and I won’t have to talk to him?
Jonas: I’m sorry, that sucks.
Jonas: Wanna come over? I can hold your hand while you do it.
Jonas: Metaphorically speaking, of course. And take you out for ice cream after.
Hadley: Nah, thanks, though. I just need to bite the bullet and get it over with.
Jonas: How did the phone call go?
Hadley: Blessedly short!
Hadley: Thanks, Joe, for being there for me.
Jonas: You’re welcome, Hads.
