“What?” Dan said, grinning.
I shook my head. “I can’t believe we’re talking about this and hashing out our rules of engagement.”
His grin remained wide. “Me neither, but we need to do this right.” Certainty weaved in his voice. “And no BJs, as seriously, Ross, the thought of tasting you….” He groaned and closed his eyes. He smacked my arse. “Okay, I need you off me now before I change my mind.”
I considered screwing with him, stripping off and grinding all up on him, just for shits and giggles. But that he’d been the one to come up with these rules was surprisingly sweet. Holding back was a big deal. I understood that. Reluctantly, I moved off the bed, knowing I’d respect his effort.
He watched me stand and gather my things. His focus on me sent my heart into overdrive. I had no idea how long this bright idea of his would last, but I hoped it wouldn’t be too long. I wanted him so badly I could barely think straight.
“I’m heading home to get changed,” I said, leaning down and capturing his lips with mine. Dan sighed against my mouth, and I pulled away so I could focus on his expression. Warmth filled his features. My own shone back at him, and I considered just how natural this felt between the two of us.
There were no freak-outs.
No hiding.
Our kisses and touches were natural, and I wasn’t sure I’d ever tire of them.
“How are you getting to work?” His car was still at my folks’ place. Immediately I thought about yesterday. I’d call my parents as soon as I was in the car to check in on them.
“I’ll sort it. Don’t worry.”
“Okay. If you see my parents, make sure they’re really okay and not bullshitting, will you?” I asked.
Dan nodded. “Of course I will. They know they can’t get anything past me.”
I smiled at his certainty, knowing he was also likely right. “I’ll call you when I’ve finished work to see where you are, what you want to do, okay?”
His work-roughened hand cupped my cheek. My breath caught at the tenderness. “Okay. Have a good day.”
I gave him one more kiss before saying, “Try to get more sleep, and I’ll see you later.”
I then got in my vehicle, contemplating how incredible it would be if this thing between Dan and me turned out to be the real deal.
