Did I? It's all a bit foggy. I can remember some stuff like arriving and setting out after the sun went down, but afterward... Darkness. I hoped whatever we caught on the cameras and my phone would prove once and for all what really happens up in Turnbull Canyon after dark. “I don’t know. I need to go over the footage.”
My mom frowned. “I should have always told you about it. I should have told you everything I knew. I... I wanted to protect you. Keep you away from all the stories and murders and crap that went on up there.”
“It’s okay mom,” I said. “Shit happens.”
She nodded. “Why don’t you get dressed. We’ll go grab some lunch and you can tell me about last night.”
I grinned. “I’d like that.”
After my mother closed the door behind her, I got out of bed and found my phone on my nightstand. The red light blinked indicating I had a message, which surprised me even more. I slid my finger across the screen then hit my voicemail icon.
“You have one message. First message.” The phone clicked then I heard Paul’s voice. “Hey, Simone.”
I jerked. Images poured through my mind. Gaspar taking me from behind. Kael and Ember going at it and then...Holy shit. What the fuck happened last night?
“Look, Ember said something about you not feeling well so Kael and Gaspar took you home while Ember waited with us for them to come back and get us. I don’t know what happened up there, but that shit fucked me up. Felix feels the same way. There was way too much going on. We’re... we’re sorry, we can’t help you process the footage. I can’t—I can’t relive it. Bye, Simone.”
A loud scream, one I couldn’t reproduce or explain emanated from my phone. I covered my ears unable to stand the sound. Yet as quickly as it started, it’d been gone. I blinked several times, trying to understand what just happened. None of it made sense. My phone vibrated in my hand. I glanced down at it and sucked in a breath as a message appeared on the screen.
We’re waiting for you... Come find us, Simone.
“Simone, honey, are you ready?” My mom hollered.
“Yeah, just a minute.” I glanced down at the screen, the screen totally blank, and frowned. What the fuck happened last night?
THE END... OR IS IT???
