Jules gave a look of sympathy. “I feel you, Ms. Sunny. But it’s not about us right now, right? Let’s just all have a good time celebrating Brookie. Can we do that?”

Tigra took a sip of her mojito, her eyes narrowing. “That’s your best friend, right?”

Jules and Brooklyn nodded.

“Mmkay, wellmybest friend, this beautiful woman right here, is way too polite to say it. So I will.”

“Tigra—“

“This is way worse than just cheating,” she said over Sunny’s protests. “Ms. Fallon over there was her coworker. And friend. And the bitch done been totheir housebefore.”

“Wait, what?” Brooklyn’s eyes widened. “You knew her?”

“Davion didn’t tell you?” Jules said, her eyes equally big.

“No. I had no idea.” Brooklyn’s face softened. “That’s terrible. If I had known—“

“IfIhad known, I would have started bullying the bitch as soon as she boarded,” Jules said.

Tigra pointed a finger at Jules. “Now we’re talking. I’m a mean girl from day one.”

“Bitch me too, the fuck?” Jules set her glass down and kicked off her Gucci flip flops. “You get her hands, I’ll get her feet. Let’s throw that hoe overboard.”

“You ain’t said nothin’ but a word.” Tigra took off her earrings. “Hope the bitch can swim.”

“Okay, stop!” Sunny said. “No. Jules, you had it right the first time. This is Brooklyn’s night. All this other stuff is between me and her, and I’m not gonna let it ruin her night.” She looked at Brooklyn. “This is the happiest I’ve seen you, so let’s keep that going.”

Brooklyn smiled, putting an arm around Sunny. “Yall heard my mother-in-law. We’re not throwing anybody overboard.”

Jules and Tigra sucked their teeth.

“But we could tie her ass up in the cabin down there to keep her out of the way.”

Jules and Tigra cheered Brooklyn’s suggestion.

“Yassss!”

“I knew you had some petty in you somewhere, bitch. Let’s gooooooo!”

Sunny shook her head. “I need another drink.”

The DJ dropped a Glorilla track and all the girls went crazy.

They were nice enough to let Fallon stay on the main deck, but word traveled fast. Nobody talked to her for the rest of the night, and the petty side of Sunny enjoyed that.

Chapter 28

“Ican’tbelievey’allniggas are in here talkin’ bout love when it’s all this ass getting thrown around.”

Mark laughed at his brother under the low, thumping bassline vibrating through the speakers.

Micah wasn’t wrong about the ass being thrown, but Mark was just fine sitting in the red velvet booth smoking a cigar and sipping top-shelf whiskey while an increasingly tipsy Orion poured his heart out.

“I’m just sayin’,” he slurred. “Where is the love? Where’s the fuckin’ love for the nigga who gave you three sons?”

Mark frowned. “Ain’t it the other way around?”

Orion shrugged a shoulder. “Point is, I ain’t just a random nigga off the street.”
