I raise an eyebrow, questioning her.
"Open it when you're alone," she says, piquing my interest.
"I’m with you, Shivani. It’s the same as being alone. I’d share everything with you anyway," I reply.
"No," she sighs. "Can’t you open it in your office?" she pleads, her finger tightening around my wrist.
I don’t understand her unusual request, but I nod.
"Thank you," she says quietly, then steps closer. She kisses my cheek, surprising me. And then, before I can even process it, she runs away.
It takes me a moment to recover from what just happened, but when I do, I feel happy. It's not like it's a huge thing considering I had just kissed her breathless a few minutes ago, but the thought that she initiated the kiss makes my heart happy. I smile at myself, touching the cheek she just kissed.
This really is the best birthday ever.

RUDRAKSH
In your presence, I've found my safe haven,
A place where fears fade and peace is woven.
Thankful I am for each moment you stay,
For enduring my flaws in every way.
You deserve better, a truth I often see,
Yet selfishly I hold on, grateful it's you and me.
In marriage, I've gained more than I ever dreamed,
With you, my world is brighter, more redeemed.
For every laugh, every tear you've dried,
For standing by me, your care magnified.
I hope for forever, with you by my side,
In your company, my worries subside.
With you, life feels like a cherished song,
Together, forever, where I truly belong.
Thank you, Rudraksh, for all that you do,
My heart overflows with gratitude for you.

Happy birthday Rudra.
I’ve read it at least five times by now. I couldn’t contain my curiosity, so I opened the envelope as soon as I sat in the car. It’s a poem. She wrote me afuckingpoem.
The paper feels thin and delicate in my hands, and I handle it carefully, as if it's a precious gem.It is for me.I read the poem once, twice, and three times. And then again. It’s simple, yet beautiful, and it speaks straight to my heart.
