“Well, I have plenty. It’s a lot.”

“It is a lot,” I agree, but I think Miguel might be missing something here. “Do you like him?”

“Who? Nathan? I mean, he’s hot. He has an incredible dick.”

I try not to laugh.

“But he’s basically a sex addict.”

“You think?”

“Obviously. I don’t think he can make it through a day—honestly,” Miguel says. “And he’s not choosy.”

“Maybe he just needs a friend,” I offer as an unlikely alternative.

Miguel grimaces. “Maybe. He’s got a weird way of going about it.”

“If you like him…” I trail off, not sure what I want to say.

“I think I just needed to tell someone about it.”

“Feel better?” I ask.

“Yeah. Kind of. Anyway, if you see or hear anything…”

“Yeah, sure,” I say, understanding Miguel is more interested in Nathan than he wants to admit.

“So…speaking of which, you and Malcolm, huh?”

I smile, unable to help myself again. “Yeah. Me and Mal.”

“Is it a big deal, or…?”

Interesting question. And incredibly personal when I thinkabout my answer. Confusing, too. “Yeah,” I say, trying to sound dismissive or vaguely indifferent about it. “But it’s not something I need everybody knowing about. At work, you know?”

“Oh, of course not. But Bailey?”

Bailey knows a little too much in my opinion. I hope she didn’t tell Miguel that Mal and I used to be stepbrothers after I took him to the ER Saturday night. Why I care is a question for another day, but being the subject of office gossip—any kind of gossip—isn’t something I’m interested in.

I shrug in response. “I trust her.”Who am I?A dude who gives trust out like candy, apparently. Love really does make people stupid, and it turns out, I’m not immune.

We talk some more—about Mal, mostly. I share with Miguel that it’s our first time in a same sex relationship, and he seems surprised by that. Not the fact that Mal is gay—according to Miguel it wasobvious? But that I’m bi, which, not gonna lie, is something I can’t wait to tell Malcolm later.

After we wrap up lunch, I spend the rest of the afternoon tackling Charlie’s to-do list—returning phone calls and emails mainly. Mal texts me around three, asking if I mind going to his place to get his work ID. I tell him no problem.

Malcolm

And if you find anything else fun you want to bring over, my nightstand drawers are deep and full of surprises.

That gives me an eyebrow raise and throb in the groin region. I’ve never been one for toys, but I have to admit—the flesh light experience was one of the hottest things I’ve ever done. I have to force myself not to think about it to get through the rest of the day.

The debrief has a tense vibe. Bailey and I are fine, but no one else seems to be. Piper and Lisette look seconds away frompulling each other’s hair out, Jia appears to have had a recent cry, and Nathan is staring down Miguel who is trying like hell to pretend he doesn’t notice.

“Looks like he wants to eat you alive,” I murmur to Miguel, getting close enough to him to make Nathan’s fist clench on the table. Admittedly, I’m testing a theory, and Nathan’s tell proved it correct. I can’t speak for every man, but once a dude has sucked your dick, it’s hard to imagine letting a woman do it. No shade to all the lovely women who’ve wrapped their mouths around mine, and maybe all guys aren’t as good at it as Malcolm is, but I’d bet good money Miguel is.

Bottom line, it’s a relief to get the fuck out of the Marks & Baker building, even though I have to go to Mal’s depressing apartment before I head home to him.

His place is worse in the daylight. All the finishings look cheap and slapped on. The kitchen cabinets are hung slightly crooked, and cold white light from the cutout windows doesn’t do the anemic paint job any favors. I’m half tempted to pack all his shit and bring it back to my place, but again, I need to pace myself.
