Page 69 of Pack: Posy 3
What do you mean something's not right?Mason asked.
I don't know. I'll be back. I have to focus on what Cole's saying.
Posy? Don't close—
I closed the link.
"This isn't working out. We don't want to be your mates anymore," Cole said. "We need a strong luna, not a useless runt."
Shock froze me in place. Even my heart stopped.
"What?" I whispered.
I heard Ash whine, but a wave of power brushed past me and he fell silent.
"Alpha Cole—"
Tristan spoke up, but Cole's fierce snarl cut him off. I felt another blast of power whip by me, and my beta whimpered.
Cole didn't take his eyes off of me, and I was shocked to see them glinting black. Something was very, very wrong. Topaznevertalked to me in this tone or said such cruel things.
"You're pathetic," he continued. "You are worthless and weak. Even yournameis weak."
Those were Alpha Briggs' words, but now they were coming out of my mate's mouth.
Trembling from head to toe, I looked at Wyatt and Ash, a spark of hope trying to stay alive in my heart.
"You don't want me, either?" I whispered.
They didn't move. They didn't even look at me. They kept their eyes fixed on their clenched hands.
Just like my brothers had each time their father hurt me.
I couldn't breathe. Pain ripped through me like claws, worse than any beating I'd ever taken.
What did I do wrong? Why did they stop loving me?
Matthew ran into the house and slid to a stop next to Tristan. His eyes swept the scene, then fixed on Cole.
Is he in on this, too? Are all the betas? Does everyone here hate me? Was it all a dream?
"Pack what you want and leave.Now." Cole's face was carved from stone, and his glowing black eyes didn't blink once. "Don't you get it? We. Don't. Want. You."
My ears buzzed so loudly that I could hardly understand his words and something inside my chest swelled like an enormous bubble. It grew bigger and bigger until it exploded into every bond that connected me to Five Fangs, and shame washed over me. A luna's first job is to protect her pack, not wound it with her selfish grief and pain.
"Luna!" Matthew and Tristan both shouted, and Ash whined again.
Hearing a thump, I looked over to see Wyatt on his knees, his hands braced on the floor as his body shook.
I couldn't even go over to comfort him.
Because it wouldn't help. Because it's my fault. Because I am everything Cole just said.
Useless.
Runt.
Pathetic.
